A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

170 school children.

Palantir, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc have made billions selling to the U.S. military a technology that promises an all-seeing eye to find all the bad guys and kill thousands of them instantly.

You and me are paying for these murders.

Tonight, two of the white nationalists I reported on in this piece showed up to attempt to intimidate me on a private night out at a small music venue.

Iโ€™ll have more to say tomorrow. Iโ€™m safe.

They also didnโ€™t pay cover ๐Ÿ–•

Inside a Surrey โ€˜Local Newsโ€™ Site Run by AI | The Tyee Surrey Speak published fake news about a mayoral candidate and an AI-generated picture of a real murder victim.

The company that launched this "news" site was supported by SFUโ€™s tech accelerator fund. How did people at our university think an AI slop news outlet was a worthy startup? Inside a Surrey 'Local News' Site Run by AI via @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/News/2026/03...

SFU Contract Workers Sounded the Alarm on Abuse. Nothing Changed | The Tyee Workers, faculty and students have called on the university to bring workers in-house for years.

The group Contract Worker Justice has been sounding the alarm about poor working conditions at @sfu.ca and heavy-handed management since COVID19 started in 2020.

Metro Vancouver's living wage is $27.85 says BC Society for Policy Solutions, but not all workers earn it.

We've been telling SFU these contractors are bad actors for half a decade now. Admin's claim that food & cleaning services aren't core functions basically amounts to saying these workers are expendable. UBC, UVic, and UBCO employ service workers directly.

When will SFU do the right thing?

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) has announced a restructuring of its executive leadership team and the intention to sell multiple properties, as the university tries to address a shortfall of approximately $25 million. The changes are just two of several that are expected in the year ahead, as the university also contends with an upcoming tuition-fee freeze.

In late January, MUN announced it will begin selling multiple properties in St. Johnโ€™s that are โ€œnot closely aligned with its academic mission,โ€ as well as its Harlow Campus in the United Kingdom. The announcement came just two weeks after the university announced executive restructuring, which saw it reduce the number of vice-presidents from seven to three.

PSA: it is in fact possible for universities to address financial challenges by slashing (incredibly expensive and largely useless) admin positions.

Memorial University just downsized VPs from 7 to 3.

Yes we can!

More than a dozen Canadian companies โ€“ including Thomson Reuters โ€“ have done business with ICE, Star analysis reveals Such contracts have become controversial as concerns mount that products or services sold to ICE could be used by the agency in activities that may violate human rights.

Turns out that the publisher of the property law textbook I use, Thomson Reuters, "holds a contract worth up to $22 million (U.S.) that began in May 2021 to provide ICE with access to a law enforcement investigative database subscription". Welp, new book time...
