We've invented remedies for various ills to ease suffering and therapies, it does not seem plausible the positive effects of getting those all cancel out with new suffering an individual experiences if they would not take those remedies.
In terms of animals, the law of fairness would be kinder yes, but it seems obviously untrue.
That's not how all things balancing out works though. If everything balances out the sense of meaning you'd find in the journey would balance out with despair elsewhere. Unless only some things balance out.
Would make for interesting fiction though.
We've made sand think, went to the moon and are experimenting with lab meat, and giving wild animals birth control instead of shooting them or releasing predators for population control.
The adaptation/the hedonic treadmill is a thing, but it's not an absolute law. Life can get better.
Damn, this is horrible...
If every pleasure is always counteracted by a displeasure elsewhere, on average life would be barely/not really worth living. The actual world might be slightly worse if you take animal suffering into account. But this is not an ineffability.
