"The largest immigrant deportation and prison contractors in the US are expecting an epic payout this year: for every $1 that they donated to GOP campaigns in 2024, these private companies stand to reap more than $11,000 in increased annual revenue."
Since last year, we’ve been reporting on ICE extensively. But every week brings new information, and it’s getting harder to keep track of what’s happening, let alone remember what’s already happened.
So here’s a quick thread to help.
Stop this. Just… Stop it. Stop using "generative AI" for anything that might actually matter, and especially things that, if it gets them wrong, *Might Fucking Kill You.*
Why does this need to be said? Why is this not obvious??? Why is this not the default way of fucking operating?! What the FUCK.
Looking back on the past couple of horrible years I do greatly appreciate the simple moral clarity of Bill Burr when he had that infuriating sit down with Bill Maher and they talked about the campus Gaza war protests and Burr simply said “I’m on the side of the kids.” He didn’t need to …
Mér finnst fyndnast þegar þetta lið tautar yfir því hvað útlendingar eru að gera við íslenska tungu þegar það er alveg augljóst að þau eru fullfær um að slátra henni sjálf
Finished a fantastic camp at Viðey last week. 5 days with over 120 people, mostly kids from 13 to 15 years old. The weather was fantastic, the team was fantastic and we are looking forward to doing this again next year #scouting #skatar

Over 60,000 malnourished children in South Sudan have gone without aid for more than a month. Supplies will run out at the end of May. Fighting has made aid deliveries nearly impossible.

Fascinating dive into the horrific ideas that the current US administration endorses
Quotes from Albert Einstein, Hannah Arendt, Gustave Gilbert, and Elon Musk, next to drawings of each in pencil style by Patt Bagely. "The death of human empathy is one of the early and most telling signs that a culture is about to fall into barbarism." - Arendt. "It is one of characteristic that connects all the defendants -- a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the lack of empathy." - Gilbert. "The fundamental weakness of western civilization is empathy." - Musk
We should minimise all research and teaching collaboration with the US. Academia is based on free speech and discussing ideas we don't agree with, if we can't enter the US because of private messages we have no business going there
