As nice as it is to have _a_ train, it's painfully slow, covering around 90km in an hour and 20 mins. We should be demanding a much faster service
To be fair there are reduced # of coaches (6 vs the usual how many coaches??)
A train arriving at a GO train station at Malton, with a suitcase and a passenger visible on the platform
I love it when the stars align and I get to take the train home from the airport, that too at 10 in the night.. and the train is surprisingly as full as I've seen it during the day
The Kitchener farmer's market is really special. It's where community comes together, there's amazing food, art and produce under one giant roof. I think of this every time I go there..
New favourite past time is watching Zohran Mamdani interviews
Great article in today's Waterloo Region Record about the Waterloo Premiere of 'Thinking Beyond the Market: a film about genuinely affordable housing.'

All day trains for Waterloo Region
Am I doing this right
Omg yay!
Did you know that Kitchener provides secure bike parking downtown?
A $10 one-time fee gives you unlimited access to these facilities to help protect your bike from theft, vandalism and weather: City Hall, KPL, Kitchener Market, Duke&Ontario and Charles&Benton.

Text: The formula is simple: Replace century-old houses in the middle of the city with courtyard blocks β apartment buildings of four to six storeys, lined up side by side along the street and leaving a doughnut-hole of green. Their apartments have windows facing both the street and a green space at the centre of the block. Such buildings make up the fabric of many Western European cities.

A closeup of very vibrant red, yellow and orange leaves
A few trees in our neighbourhood look like patchwork quilts with the colours in different stages of green, red, orange and yellow.
The last photo is a tree that is so vibrant I find it hard to focus on it. Itβs absolutely gorgeous.
Hereβs hoping that construction costs to have all day, 60 min GO train service between Kitchener and Union can be kept low enough for it to get built, and done fast

A temporary hockey set up for kids on a parking lot for Oktoberfest
Thatβs a good use of a parking lot.
A short but important thread about why we're seeing so much pushback on speed cameras in Ontario, that's not seen in many other places.
Thereβs something so beautiful about a house with a front yard overrun with weeds and plants of all kindsβ¦ it feels alive
Letβs look at some numbers. 85th percentile speeds at multiple school zones, and the speed limits in the Region of Waterloo before/after speed camera enforcement (on page 4). www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/living-he...
The 85th percentile is 20+ speed limit in most cases. SCs bring them down.
Iβm grateful to mayor McCabe for standing up to Ford.
"If Ford goes through with his ban, the city should keep some cameras rolling (but not issue tickets) to see if the number of speeding cars zooms back up. I suspect those numbers would prove that, despite the premierβs enthusiasm, road safety is not a problem that can be solved with flashing lights"
YT channels be advertising recipes to make at home cuz theyβre healthy, me be making them with ingredients from the bulk store to save on extra plastic packaging.
The Working Centre does truly amazing work here in Kitchener.
Iβm so sick and tired of his populist policies.
Actually if you like videos about ION light rail, you might like this one too
So excited to see the Region of Waterlooβs ION LRT on one of the urbanism channels I follow π€©

End grain choppinh board made from different types of wood
One of the best decisions Iβve made recently is shopping for gifts for family months in advance of my trip back home to India.. this way gifts are more thoughtful and not last minute panic buys π¬
Like the chopping board I bought at KW woodworking and craft centreβs open house
Beautifully decorated interiors of a restaurant.
To my Kitchener and Waterloo friends, please check out Pasha BBQ in DTK, they have a diverse and flexible menu, and the items Iβve tried there have been delish. Every time Iβve visited there, I feel like the owner understands exactly what I want and modifies the menu a bit to make it π
Perhaps forcing e-scooters to be returned at a docking station, similar to how it works for bikes, as an example: support.bixi.com/hc/en-ca/sec....

This is one of those pleasantly surprising good news, thank you Guelph. It enables people to be more environmentally friendly at places that serve food in disposable containers.
Who else is disappointed that promising candidates like Sam Nabi (who had an excellent resume for this job honestly, check out his and some of the othersβ speeches!) didnβt even make it to the second round of voting? well, at least there will be an election for the same position in Oct next year π€·ββοΈ
We could start by installing more signs on trails requiring cyclists and scooters to slow down and ring their bells when overtaking pedestrians. Iβve only noticed one sign on the Spur line trail and that has too much text for a sign and is easy to miss.
