The egg whites have cooked through, leaving a perfectly shaped yolk. “Behold,” he says, holding out his bowl, “a lazy poached egg.” “Can you even call it a poached egg if the yolk is just sitting out naked like that?” I ask, eying his bowl skeptically. Kai picks up his chopsticks. “Fine, it’s a half-poached egg,” he shrugs. “Still tastes good though.” I leave him to his Gudetama egg and turn back to my own bowl, relishing in its lingering warmth.
