Always a thrill to get the first glimpse..... Just received the proof of my next book from Torrey House Press. The real thing comes out mid-May. I'll be posting updates, reviews, and info on events in upcoming days.
With less than 24 hours notice, more than 400 people turned out to insist on ICE OUT yesterday in Prescott, AZ. For context, this town is historically so red that there wasn't even a Democratic party when I moved here in the late 80s. That's me, by the way, holding the two signs in the foreground.)
700 people showed up, on very short notice, in Prescott, Arizona--once an indomitable Republican stronghold (there was never even a Democratic party in this county until ~1990), but now bristling with indignation and outrage at this regime's heartless cruelty.

Honored to be profiled by the AZ Republic's excellent climate reporter, Joan Meiners, on our work on the ecological importance of the #MogollonHighlands Ecoregion, and more generally of the Natural History Institute. (Orig article is behind a paywall: links to article in first 2 comments).

I'll be helping lead this wonderful program in Ecuador this coming winter-- join me? Every time I visit Ecuador I emerge rejuvenated by the beauty of the world.
Hands Off rally in Prescott, Arizona--the biggest crowd (law enforcement estimated close to 2000) I've ever seen in 37 years here. For context, this is a deep red county, which didn't even have, and never had had, a Democratic Party when I moved here in the late 80s. Incredibly uplifting. Onward!

I was recently invited to share my thoughts on the importance of integrating sciences and humanities. My essay, "The Way of Integration," is included in this exciting new collection. (My piece is linked in the first comment)
My perspective on coping with the election and all it represents-- written in the immediate aftermath, but still reflective of how I feel.... Thanks to Torrey House Press for this blog, "That Thing With Feathers," which provides "Hope and Literature In a Time of Upheaval"....

Here at the Prescott, Arizona Courthouse Squareβiconic backdrop for many Republican rallies (Goldwater and McCain both announced their presidential campaigns here)β 850 people showed up today to call for an end to our current national madness.
