It's March 1st and we have our first sign of spring! Early crocus blooms peeking out through the snow.

What frustrates me here is that there is little that can be done to minimize the harm. For mercury you must decrease its release into the environment.
I am tired of people growing richer at the expense of everyone else's health and safety.
I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it wonβt be just as bad for those.
Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. Itβs often said you never know when youβre living through history, so let me assure you: thatβs whatβs happening now.
I don't really know what to say anymore but I know that it will take decades, if ever, for higher ed to recover from the deep, deep cowardice of these institutions.
Happy 60th ES&T! ππ₯³ππ
Our take on ES&T papers and how they've shaped and influenced our understanding of atmospheric chemistry.
We need clean air and water! Not fatter pocketbooks for oil, gas, and coal companies.
Good to know some classes were lively!
Yeah, current events are a lot right now, they may be feeling that.
Yeah, my office hours are about half what I've seen previously and the board is also quieter.
Yup, we've done think-pair-share type activities. They engage, but it's a lot quieter than previous years.
Has anyone noticed a change in students? I'm teaching a big intro course and usually I get a lot of engagement with my questions. But my students are so quiet! I'm a little worried that they are getting used to looking up the answer for everything on ChatGPT and less used to thinking for themselves.
KΔ«lauea, Episode 42
Kilauea's erupting, too. Dramatically.
Congrats to Doug Worsnop for being elected into NAE!

I wish I had a good read on this, but I donβt and neither does anyone else right now. Definitely not good, but not clear how bad and how fast things could change now. Still time to respond to the DCL and say NCAR must stay together. If not for NCARβs sake, for yoursβ¦
On a busy day for science policy, it looks like oversight and operations of NCARβs supercomputing center are transitioning to a third-party operator. www.nsf.gov/news/transit...
Lean more about the costs of dismantling NCAR with this opinion from @carlonimbus.bsky.social.
Good outcome from that really icky Super Bowl commercial.

This is really cool! I like how the atmospheric chemists have their own little cluster :)

I love that it was a real wedding!
I didn't realize how much I miss the muppets.
Miss Piggy and Sabrina Carpenter
I'm impressed at how logistically, Sabrina Carpenter is like the perfect height to host the Muppets

Congrats Hongmin, that was a wonderful defense!!
Proud Paul with Maria. Maria gave me a red flowers - a tradition in China.
Congratulations to Hongmin (Maria) Yu who successfully and expertly defended her thesis "Exploring Atmospheric Autoxidation of Organic Emission from Volatile Chemical Products". Thanks to @jessekroll.bsky.social, and @caltech.edu Profs Mitchio Okumura, and Rick Flagan for serving on her committee.
