The New Radical Feminism: Brown/Trans/Les, Reviewed Talia Bhatt's new "Brown/Trans/Les" is a tour de force that reclaims the necessity of radical feminism in our pervasively misogynist age.

most media is framing this as a revenue/budget thing. mistake! metered/paid parking makes parking and driving better for drivers. you could set the money on fire and there would still benefits. focus on that. being able to invest it elsewhere is a bonus.

My dear American Muslim siblings,

I'm so sorry that you're being subjected to so much ugliness here, in your home, & that there's so much horror in so many places across the Muslim world. I wish your holy month were filled only with peace, groaning Iftar tables, & joyful hearts. I'm so sorry. ❤️

The absolute most disgusting, eliminationist Islamophobia from multiple members of the House Republican caucus continues to spew forth without acknowledgment or censure

This disgusting shit doesn’t belong in American society.

And Republicans who support it don’t belong in Congress.

We must demand that our Members of Congress oppose ANY and ALL funding for Trump’s illegal war, including voting against any supplemental funding package.

seeing more disgusting genocidal racism talk coming from Israeli politicians now that more bombs are dropping.

There is no justification.

Every human being's life is equally precious and demands our dignity, care and consideration.

Full stop.

If it’s true that the United States bombed an elementary school and killed scores of children it is an unfathomable crime. I have never been more disgusted to be an American.

I've turned off auto-play of videos on my account. Because I can't handle seeing on a constant loop someone getting beaten up and maimed by a congressional lawmaker.

Please, not every violent, disturbing video needs to be reposted a thousand times.

If you're trying to understand the ways that Christianity in the US is connected to all that's happening now at home + abroad, check out the Straight White American Jesus podcast hosted by @bradleyonishi.bsky.social + @swajdan.bsky.social. They are both professors + former Evangelicals ministers.

New research from northern Minn. shows wolves feed berries to their young New research into the surprising summer eating habits of northern Minnesota wolves known to be fond of beaver, fish and blueberries has now also documented wolves feeding those berries to their pups.

This is very important news, and I will be disappointed if within the next 5 years we don't have any picturebooks about wolves feeding blueberries to their pups! www.mprnews.org/story/2020/0...

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Big corporate landlords, including private equity & Wall Street firms, have driven up housing costs across the country.

I'm proud to join @warren.senate.gov in a bill to end tax benefits for major corporate landlords & reinvest those tax savings to help people afford homes.

Donald Trump canceled Direct File after giant tax prep companies spent millions lobbying.

Why? Because Direct File let you file your taxes for free.

So today, I’m introducing a bill to make Direct File the law of the land. And 160 members of Congress are joining me.

The Beginning Comes After the End
Notes on a World of Change
by Rebecca Solnit
Rebecca Solnit offers a thrilling account of the sheer breadth and scale of social, political, scientific, and cultural change over the past three quarters of a century.

In this sequel to her enduring bestseller Hope in the Dark, Solnit surveys a world that has changed dramatically since the year 1960. Despite the forces seeking to turn back the clock on history, change is not a possibility; it is an inevitability.

The changes amount to nothing less than dismantling an old civilization and building a new one, whose newness is often the return of the old ways and wisdoms. In this rising worldview, interconnection is a core idea and value. But because the transformation is obscured within a longer arc of history, its scale is seldom recognized.

While the white nationalist and authoritarian backlash drives individualism and isolation, this new world embraces antiracism, feminism, a more expansive understanding of gender, environmental thinking, scientific breakthroughs, and Indigenous and non-Western ideas, pointing toward a more interconnected, relational world.

I wrote a book! It's trickling out, already in some bookstores. And I'm doing a bunch of events for it (see below). More info on book in alt text.

Since then, one red line after another has been crossed: Undocumented immigrants are called animals; civilian boats are blown out of the water; American citizens are gunned down in the streets and then accused of being domestic terrorists; universities, news organizations and law firms are being bullied and blackmailed; and refugees are deported to countries whose languages they probably don’t even speak. And that is aside from the blatant corruption of family and cronies.

All this was incremental, too, but compared with 1934, everything goes much faster. And yet life continues as usual. What was unthinkable only yesterday we now take in stride, and we wait for that moment when things really have gone too far this time, when the fever breaks and things will revert to normal.

But that moment probably won’t come. Things have gone too far too many times already. Hoping for better is still the right attitude, but only as long as we prepare for the worst.

Let me tell you a tale of how completely the normies have been mobilized. My 14 year-old niece has done School of Rock for the past 5 years; last summer she was part of their touring band, and the kids loved playing together so much that they decided to keep doing it. (1/?)
