The parts of our government that do the most good are the ones most Americans never hear about, because when they succeed, nothing happens—no economic crashes, disease outbreaks, wars, or terrorist attacks. This is a hard thing to communicate to voters, especially in an information system designed to amplify whatever makes us most angry and afraid.

A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

This is no more legal than if the government fired the board of a university or your local United Way charity, and sent FBI agents to force their current leaders from their own building.

If Musk/Trump can get people to justify this, they'll be a step closer to justifying that.
