The first time Charlie Chaplin spoke onscreen, he implored the people of the world to resist the rising tide of fascism.
Nearly 90 years later, it remains a timely message.
I swear this is what Microsoft does to me every time I want to play Minecraft
I doubt this AWS outage will be a wake-up call to anybody who can actually make a difference but it's insane how much of the internet relies on a single region of AWS being up.
Tried using Cursor to write source maps for a new bundler we're migrating to. My first attempt gave me 403 errors to the map file. Cursor+Gemini's suggestion? Make the files public.
Never mind security. Never mind that AWS 403s when the file doesn't exist. Blog coming soon.

In a shocking surprise to nobody, Anthropic has now reversed its stance and says it will Claude on users chats.
Why are we just assuming there is nothing to be done with AI? Classrooms and teachers don’t need to bare the burden, it is absolutely possible to regulate and we should. Watermarks, smart checks for cheating, or even turning clients off entirely during exam season.
I don't really agree with that at all, it looks like they're genuinely trying to solve the problem unless there's some background I'm not aware of? Having two sets of notes is hardly a big deal in the bigger picture of the problems AI causes in classrooms.
I think the professor simply recording the lectures would solve this problem, because they are trying to solve the bigger issue of students constantly using AI. Yet another problem we've created to throw on teachers to handle
At what point in history did we stop critically thinking before letting technology run rampant on our society and economy?
Zuckerberg freezing hiring due to AI bubble fears? AWS CEO saying it's the "dumbest thing [he's] ever heard" to replace junior devs with AI? Any serious developer using AI in their workflows is not surprised. This technology has a long way to go.
100% agree. Now corporations can conveniently blame the government for spying on us too. I’m tired.
With Bluesky all the way on this one, internet privacy should be in the forefront of everyone’s concerns right now.
The platforms are awful too. So many people have them just because they have all of their contacts through them.
I sincerely wish this would happen. This is the problem with walled-garden advertising in general, nobody knows what their actual conversion rates are. It should be surprising to nobody that Meta is fluffing their numbers.
95% of companies see zero return on $30 billion generative AI spend. When we will start listening to experts in the field instead of CEOs?

Too many times while using AI I’ve thought to myself “if I didn’t know what I was doing that’d be a disaster”
Isn't a large use case of AI faster searching? Like, doesn't GPT-5 lose a lot of it's purpose when it's taking a minute to answer anyways?
When did we decide that every app needed an over-tuned chatbot that gives wrong answers? Adding a shitty ✨ button to an app won't change a thing for like 99% of apps out there
In an effort to get off of TikTok just to get decent news, I created an aggregate of news on my site that emphasizes perspectives of the global south and more critical news pieces of US government policies.

A reminder that your online privacy is important. It doesn't matter if you have "nothing to hide". You aren't the one who decides what you should hide, and what you're open about today will change tomorrow.

Applied for a software engineering remote role recently. The application required that I sign up and use their product in order to apply. Also submit a video explaining something I learned. Also answer screening questions.
Instant automated rejection email.
Yeah, last time I'll ever be doing that.

As a developer, it's important to be selective with your tools if you're trying to maximize your productivity. Don't assuming throwing AI at something will make you work faster..
"Surprisingly, we find that when developers use AI tools, they take 19% longer than without"
AI can help you be more productive, but the companies that think it'll replace workers will get exactly what they deserve.
If you've read the Microsoft paper that implied your job will be taken away, know that the paper has a lot of logical pitfalls.
A logical equivalent of what this paper says: Because more people googled "how to program in python", there will be less python engineers.
