Children donβt βget confusedβ by multiple languages. They get confused when adults (not just teachers!) treat the ways they use their languages as problems. Support multilingual kids by honouring all the ways they make meaning #Translanguaging #EducationForAll

So much of data analysis is actually data organization
Everything else that possibly exists.

Im (still) coPI of a $3mill US Dept of Education Grant 2022-2027). We serve underresourced schools in the US Midwest. Our research documents how to get great positive lasting + sustainable outcomes, and explains what to do to support teachers. We do the kind of work fascists dread #multilingualism

Reviewer 1 of the paper I'm revising today, whoever you are: thank you, I owe you dinner and a drink at the next conference we attend.
This is spot on
it's many things: It's paying lip service. It's pretending to have what we don't have. It's hoping to be able to hoard as many "top talent" individuals but then pull the rug. It's embarrassing, for sure.
Language is not a system of communication. It's much more. It is how culture is articulated, shared, transmitted. How identities are forged, performed. How knowledge is disseminated, maintained, developed. Ultimately, language is how individuals, communities and societies take shape over time.
Indeed
We're literally being defunded by his ministry and he's promising money to bring top international scientists and their teams to the Netherlands? Plus NWO has become impossibly competitive, but suddenly there's room for more? I don't get it.
I'm including this in my course starting in April!
Fully funded (NWO) PhD position opening soon on Multilingualism, Identity and Emotions in Post-migratory Settings. Co-supervised by myself and Hadi Mirvehedi. Come join us at the @unigroningen.bsky.social's Centre for Language and Cognition π email me if you have preliminary questions

On point!
