Well, after eight years of research, writing and revision, I just sent the full manuscript for THE DIVISION: JOHN DOAR, THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT to my publisher.
This is happening, people. Whether you want it or not.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
My mom took me to get my first library card when I was about five years old. It was magical.

I'm not an enormous fan of the stone roses but this tune is one of our generations greats, whenever it comes on the radio I'm singing the bass part (in my head, with my teeth). The fella could play and he played with feeling

While writing my first novel, I held onto a line from the movie, Field of Dreams: "If you build it, they will come."
As in, "If you write it, they will publish it."
It kept me going. And now I have an offer on the table.
Build it. They will come 🙏

An open book lying on a work surface. There is a full page illustration on the left (and this is a 14 inch or 35 centimeter tall book) and a meticulously written page of text on the right. The book is a facsimile, printed in 2001, of the 1493 German language edition of a history of the world.
It's a complete facsimile of a hand-tinted 1493 Nuremberg Weltchronik, and I think... you might have to arm wrestle me for it.
(...That's not a meek threat coming from someone who can lift 4 OED volumes off an overhead shelf in one motion.)

What a treasure
An illustration of a young women yanking a weed out of a bed of marigolds. The primary colours of the piece are deep green and a saffron yellow, with some brown and moss green tones as well. The camera is looking up at the young girl with a forced perspective, as she pulls out the weed while leaning back. The text reads: PULL FASCISM UP BY THE ROOT.

I’m not one to horn-toot but I am so happy to have received my first Emmy nomination for this show and for these characters I love playing so dang much... and so very grateful to be sharing a category with my incredible friends.
I was convinced this would never happen.
I treasure this nomination.

Common Moorhen with a chick swimming in water with gentle ripples. The adult has a bright red patch on its forehead and a yellow-tipped beak with white streaks mark its sides. Close beside it, a small, fuzzy chick follows that is mostly black with a hint of downy texture and red beak.
