"This is the great discovery of the conflict entrepreneurs: what counts in politics is not how well people are doing, but how well they are doing in relation to designated out-groups." So people support a class war against themselves.

Independent front page Wednesday 22 January: Trump to hold UK over barrel on trade Insiders say new president 'holds all the cards' in negotiations as 'desperate' Britain will be forced to accept terms of any deal to kickstart slow growth - and can't fall back on China or EU DAVID MADDOX IN WASHINGTON DC Donald Trump's newly elected administration believes it has Sir Keir Starmer's government "over a barrel" on trade as Britain becomes increasingly reliant on a US deal, insiders have told The Independent. Senior sources within the US president's team claimed that the UK has no choice but to seek a trade agreement after the prime minister said that his government's success would be judged primarily on economic growth. With Britain's relations with the EU strained following Brexit, and only a modest investment deal secured on Rachel Reeves's recent trip to China, one Trump aide said it was time "to remind Starmer who holds all the cards in this relationship". Washington has long wanted the UK to lift its import ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef, a move the former UK ambassador to the US Kim Darroch warned would destroy British farming.
Oh look. Yet another Brexit benefitβ¦

Because the option of properly fixing what we broke with the EU will piss off the Daily Mail.

A photo of the front cover of issue 1641 of Private Eye magazine with the caption "ON SHELVES NOW!" The headline reads "DONALD TRUMP: AN APOLOGY." The cover features a mock statement claiming that, in contrast to past descriptions of Trump as "a sleazy, deranged, orange-faced man-baby," the magazine now recognises him as "a political colossus, the voice of sanity, a champion of liberty, and the saviour of the Western world." The parody humorously describes him as "slim, handsome, and young," concluding with a note that "this statement has not been fact-checked."
Donald Trump. An Apology.

Really struck today by how many of the people most responsible for the Brexit shitshow were actively rewarded for their stupidity/dishonesty. Knighthoods, Damehoods, peerages, newspaper columns, seats in the House of Commonsβ¦ Itβs a mark of how deep the rot has gone into the fabric of our society.
Oh please. Since when has out-bastarding Farage ever worked? You just pull political debate to the right, punch down on the vulnerable, whip up prejudice and actually deliver naff all. Look at the last 14yrs of Farage-induced failure.
For love of god, be better.

A brilliant analysis of the epic Brexit failure. Scorn for the liars and solidarity for the rest of us.
