This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

How data can help to guide NIH funding policy | Nature The US National Institutes of Health has troves of information on grant applications. Analysing it can assist with decision-making on issues such as equity. The US National Institutes of Health has troves of information on grant applications. What Congress should do is not vote for additional funding, but reallocate the funding that ICE received instead. There's no reason why a domestic law enforcement agency needs a budget larger than the United States Marines.

Early Iran strikes cost $5.6 billion in munitions, Pentagon estimates The figure, accounting for the war’s first two days, is likely to intensify concerns in Congress that U.S. forces are churning through a scarce supply of advanced weaponry.

'The Pentagon is moving parts of a THAAD system from South Korea to the ME and also drawing from its supply of sophisticated Patriot interceptors in the Indo-Pacific and elsewhere to bolster its defense against Iran’s drone and ballistic missile attacks'

Note that this talk included some fresh out of the oven new work w/ @foxdotdrew.bsky.social & the Kalin lab, but I did not have time to get into the Ca+ imaging collab w/ TeamKa$h. We are grateful 4 Tom & his trainees' work to further our understanding of how the brain tracks threat uncertainty!

This was super-duper fun! Two wildly different semi-informal back-2-back talks to my UMD friends & colleagues, most of whom haven't seen us talk since we were hired. Ari Gard's talk on data-sharing was timely & thought provoking. Thx for organizing @pessoabrain.bsky.social !

Current NIH leadership want you to think they are using rigorous, consistent & scientific processes to screen studies to align them with agency priorities.

But the process that they have put down on paper is a sham.

It’s important to know NIH is not following its own guidance. Here’s why:

When bullshiters tell you they will soon be able to make "digital twins" of patients, remember articles like this about how hard it is to model a single cell.

Today should be your 38th birthday..
When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..

While we sit around to find out how bad exactly it all is, a bit of cheer: the best baguette of Paris competition was won by a Sri Lankan who appears to have started as a dish washer in restaurants and eventually trained as a Boulanger.

A children's hospital is renamed for Dolly Parton and hopes to transform pediatric care in Tennessee Dolly Parton’s name might inspire full-throated sing-a-longs to her working woman’s anthem “9 to 5,” or evoke memories of thrilling days spent at her Dollywood theme park.

“Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital did not share how much Parton donated as part of the naming announcement. But Matt Schaefer, its president and CEO, said her support would ensure ‘every child who walks through our doors receives the treatment they deserve.’”

GOD BLESS DOLLY PARTON

Why I’m Not a Cognitive Psychologist... or a Behaviorist... or a Biologist “Science” is under increasing amounts of scrutiny. Concerns about reproducibility, reduced institutional support, and intensified competition has been highlighted in recent years, but segregated science endangers scientific discovery above all. Segregated science can be interdisciplinary (biology vs psychology) or intradisciplinary (behaviorism vs cognitive psychology). The advancement of science and public knowledge depends on the unification of all disciplines to better understand the phenomena scientists study. We suggest that engendering collaborations across scientific disciplines produces better-designed research and appropriate interpretations, and increases career-long success. I am not a cognitive psychologist, behaviorist, or biologist because I am a neuroscientist.
