It frustrates me that people who are so reluctant to accept that there are other species capable of complex cognition or sentience, yet so quick to assign it to their fancy autocorrect.

The phrase "the hope that normality can be conjured out of habit" is excellent.

One key reform would be to put into place a "nothing about us without us" principle that is actually enforceable so that patient groups can't be subjected to unethical medicine or neglect with no say in how that care is regulated.
Meanwhile there is some small cause for optimism. The Green Party’s policy positions on trans healthcare are better and last I checked also include a trans-led public inquiry to hold people accountable.

OH NO!
This skeet is already out of date!
The notinourname.org.uk petition by @nionwomen.bsky.social for women opposed to being used as pretexts for establishment transphobia has now passed 90,000!
“…there are psychopaths, born not socially constructed, but even rotten apples take their cues from their surroundings… Violence is rarely random, despite the frequency with which this phrase appears. Its targets are predetermined by hatreds that are learned, not inherent.”
Is it a secret project?
What are your taxes paying for?
A reminder that there are young people in the UK who have been held in prison for up to two years without conviction for allegedly dismantling weapons of genocide.
The government has been proven wrong on all accusations against them so far.

Like, I get it, and I'm totally not coming for you here - if anything the absurdity comes from the context/environment - but is the irony a little on the nose here?
There are certainly some parallels with Blair's Iraq war.
Dear Shabana, I notice today that you referred to me in your speech on immigration at the IPPR think tank. You said: “A party leader should not be on the beaches of France encouraging people to make a perilous crossing on small boats.” I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised especially after the hateful Labour campaign in Gorton and Denton, but this is just the latest in a string of lies peddled by a discredited Government who intentionally fan the flames of racism and division. When I went to Calais, I was not there to encourage people to travel to the UK. I was there to see at first hand the suffering your Government and successive Governments have done in demonising migrants in a pathetic bid to pander to the base instincts of Reform and the flawed strategy of Morgan McSweeney. As you will know, if you even bothered to research my visit instead of taking Reform talking points, I was there to witness the brutality of families living in tents in freezing temperatures. I filled water tanks and picked up litter. What that visit did do is confirm my belief that if we are to smash the boat gangs and stop the boats, we need to offer safer and managed routes for migrants to come to this country. Showing compassion as a politician is not a crime. In fact, we need to see much more of it. It reminded me of a young MP who in October 2015 spent three days in Lesbos helping migrants fleeing war-torn Syria. She posted videos on X, talked about handing out water and croissants to refugees and food parcels. When she returned to the UK, she wrote a very moving piece in the New Statesman. She said “we have to work with our European partners and create new, safe, and legal routes for refugees to get to Europe. We cannot abandon them to their fate, left as prey for smugglers whilst risking death on the seas.” She said “maybe we can make ourselves feel better by saying no-one is making them get on the boats. And again, the Home Secretary is not entirely wrong when …
Dear Shabana,
Let's clear some things up around migration and remember we're talking about people's lives.
A picture of PEW poll on global attitude survey, saying the % who rate the morality and ethics of people in their country as good vs bad, where the US has the worst rankings and Canada the best
Americans: we live in a fallen state—embroiled by sin, cheating, lying, and evil. You cannot trust anyone, not even those who claim to know you best
Canadians: I love my neighbors and my friends!
Doesn't attacking Iran destabilize oil prices and push the world *away* from depending on it? Or do you imagine this is a shorter-term grift to manipulate prices?
You may be correct, but I don't see explanatory power in your hypothesis.
FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
McGovern: How the hell is this America first? You guys broke your top campaign promise. Good luck with that. I hope the defense contractor money was worth it. Shame on you all. The mask is off. You're all just a bunch of pathetic Neocon Warmongers.
For those that don't buy into the Mossad/Epstein connection, other questions might be "why now?" and "who benefits?" from the US attacking Iran now. Other than Israel, a clear beneficiary is Trump, whose polling is bad in no small part due to the Epstein scandal.
Assuming that we're talking about Iran, then the _potential_ thing that links the two is the state of Israel and its ongoing influence over US (and hence global) politics.
At least he's not towing the line on Iran. Small comfort, I know, but I'm hoping (but not realistically expecting) that this break is a sign of better things to come.
How confident are you that the two are not connected? (Genuine question)

My goodness, if this is what @zackpolanski.bsky.social can do with just 5 MPs, imagine how amazing a Green Party majority government would be...!
Dehumanizing people is what fascists do and we are not fascists, nor should we want to be
Just in case they are looking to see public response.
I am against war. I am against collaborating with warmongers. I'm against war crimes and the massacre of children. Of anyone.
War is monstrous.
What is being done cannot be justified. I am ashamed of and disgusted by the horror we unleash.
I think about this Tony Benn speech much more than I used to
I dream of being able to rate any post along any arbitrary metric (e.g. "cat", "citation needed", "probability of being true") on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0.
