Dedication from American Notes for General Circulation by Charles Dickens. Says: "I DEDICATE THIS BOOK TO THOSE FRIENDS OF MINE IN AMERICA WHO, GIVING ME A WELCOME I MUST EVER GRATEFULLY AND PROUDLY REMEMBER, LEFT MY JUDGMENT FREE; AND WHO, LOVING THEIR COUNTRY, CAN BEAR THE TRUTH, WHEN IT IS TOLD GOOD HUMOUREDLY, AND IN A KIND SPIRIT.
I quoted Charles Dickens' visit to the New Lebanon Shaker Village a lot from his book American Notes for General Circulation. His dedication thanks his friends for hosting and taking his criticism in good humor.
All of these images seem to be based on the same original image but changed for the format they would be printed in. I always find that path of reproduction to be so interesting. I have put them in order of the year I found them published, but hard to know the original: 1826, 1835, 1847, 1873
upright shaker chair with blue woven seat. back of chair reads "god bless mother"
I think this chair would make for an incredible tattoo. From the Shaker Museum item #2021.2.1
Here are some things that made me laugh or I found interesting in my journey writing this video essay on the Shakers: youtu.be/3i8Zqysl_gI
This one's about the Shakers. Intentional community and chair builder extraordinaires. I thought I knew about the Shakers, but it turns out like most things I was merely looking at the surface and the depths of knowledge are unlimited. As are the baskets.
See if you can get Paxlovid ASAP! It truly saved me last time I caught it. First time COVID made my POTS worse than ever before, second time with Paxlovid i was recovered in 4 days and nothing cognitive like the first time around.
This show is really good and making this video gave me an excuse to just think about it for a couple weeks.
Shout out to @queline.bsky.social for editing this video and doing all the cool effects that I canβt comprehend
I was in shock for the last 20 minutes
Now you all will know how annoying it is to watch a movie next to me.
Tell Cookie they are the cutest cat! Thank you for sending, makes me very happy.
this is so incredibly cool!!
Made a little gift guide for YouTube. It's a little collection of things I love, things I want, and things I need to tell someone else about.
If you want to search and see if your upcoming hotel has normal doors you can search Sadie's website. You can also find hotels that have confirmed doors.

Borrowed this book "Hotel Design: Planning and Development from @archive.org which had so much information. Have a feeling I will be going back to it in the future.

My first YouTube video featuring an interview!
Talked to the creator of Bring Back Doors. A website that catalogs hotels that do and don't have bathroom privacy.
@marc-fischer.bsky.social with Half Letter Press seems like a perfect example of the pamphlet's abilities!
"Well, you know what we have to contend against; but we, too, are not without strength. We have on our side power of combination-a power denied to the vampire kind; we have sources of science; we are free to act and think; and the hours of the day and the night are ours equally. In fact, so far as our powers extend, they are unfettered, and we are free to use them. We have self-devotion in a cause, and an end to achieve which is not a selfish one. These things are much.β
Happy Halloween! A little quote from Dracula about using teamwork, science, free will to fight a strong murderous enemy!
Getting *slightly* more comfortable on camera has been my biggest accomplishment. You really need to watch and practice so much before it feels anything like being in the same room. Shoutout to TikTok for giving me a place to practice and embarrass myself gradually.
Thank you! And thank you for appreciating the citations. Itβs nice to know someone sees them!!
I had read about the Saltair years ago while on a wikipedia rabbit hole. But last year when I saw the 1962 film Carnival of Souls I realized that it was the same building (sort of). I love when a video is years in the making!
Head to a protest today. I can almost promise you will feel less hopeless. That's exactly what they don't want. There are more of us than there are of them.
I love making youtube videos!
Miss being a bad twitter comedian⦠have a real gross joke about my period and I feel like bluesky is too classy for it
When I got the final edit I was like, I didnβt know graphics could motion like that.
If you're missing HBO's The Gilded Age you can relive it from the eyes of the ever critical interior decorator, Edith Wharton.
Thank you to @queline.bsky.social for editing this video for me! If it seems well done... that's why!
There was a winner. After a week of testing, YouTube chose 'I'm looking' because it had the largest watch time comparatively. I'm glad cause that one was my favorite! youtu.be/XHdjb7Qgrh8
Last year YouTube introduced A/B tests for thumbnails and I don't know if I like them. I've used them consistently since then, but I don't love that everyone experiences the video a little differently. So here are all the thumbnails and if YT makes a choice you can be like... ugh they are so wrong.
The New Yorker put out an article in May on 'notable New Yorkers' living rooms. Then I compiled all the photos into a spreadsheet so I could say "89% of 'notable New Yorkers' have white walls."
