SF2 was most likely the US distributorβs decision since it was Sony Music Entertainment. The music to the Guyver was by UK rock band Bush. AnimEigoβs interview with Laurence Guinness goes into it a bit. Mostly they replaced the music because they thought UK teens would prefer it to the J Pop
There was also Mad Bull 34 which had new music by Donald Ross Skinner of Legend 4 Kings. Fist of the North Star TV had really intrusive drumβnβ bass music replacing everything from the original. Space Adventure Cobra had music by Yello & Street Fighter 2 animated movie had a whole new soundtrack
What did you think of Mean & Mercenary? Iβm sure if Iβd found it cheap I wouldβve bought it too. And that Crying Freeman boxset is one of the nicest VHS boxsets the 90s had to offer
Iβm certain thatβs definitely a bootleg. Manga stopped the tape labels long before Wings of the Honneamise
Iβm certain it was not released here, any anime older than the 80s was pretty much guaranteed not to sell. I donβt remember any mentions of it either, sorry
*VHS only. Total doesn't include: re-releases, box sets, compilations, subbed versions, Mean & Mercenary, Manga Live & that 1 Ultraman Into the Future video. Also not inc are the 2 Korean animations; Armageddon & Red Hawk. Also, the 1991 Akira vids aren't counted as they predate Manga Video.

This UK version is reprinted from the US Tokuma Shoten version that came out earlier. Are you thinking of that?
Yeah, I probably do. As I recall the tape wasnβt in the best condition but it was watchable

Yeah I know, seems so unlike them...
AnimEigo's interview with Manga Video's founder Andy Frain is here! Such a fascinating insight into how anime came to Britain & so many great stories too. The kid who won the Akira bike, the Daily Mail hate campaign, changing music & adding swears!
This is a must watch for all 90's anime fans!
