UKโs climate aid cuts condemned as โrecklessโ slashing by charities and campaigners
Campaigners warn proposals will drive global allies away at a critical time
The #UK plans to cut its aid budget. Shameful!
Shared with @stuti.bsky.social of the @theindependent.bsky.social that the UK should instead tax the windfall profits #fossilfuel companies are making from gas price spikes linked to the war with Iran.

Trump set to dismantle US climate rules in โbetrayalโ of global goals
The White House describes the move as โthe largest deregulatory action in American historyโ
The #Trump gov now removes vital pollution protection.
Shared thoughts with @stuti.bsky.social of @theindependent.bsky.social:
Prioritizing short-term #fossilfuel profits over public health & economic competitiveness also leaves the US behind in green tech.

Historic. #China s #solar capacity will overtake #coal this year.
Coal is finished economically.
Yet China doubles down & builds more coal plants unnecessary.

I interviewed several people from Adani greens, the company that's building the park. While the brand Adani has been associated with coal in India and elsewhere, what stood out was how bullish they were on renewables. The company is planning 50GW of renewable energy by 2030. Coal isn't going out...

I visited Khavda recently, where India is building the world's largest renewable energy park, using an arid land 5 times the size of Paris for a combination of solar and wind energy. Once operational the park would produce 30GW of energy. But that wasn't the biggest takeaway for me.

With limited data available on fusion reactor costs, BloombergNEF instead points to nuclear fission as a benchmark. It estimates that building a large fission reactor in the US costs about $15,000 per kilowatt of capacity, which is more than five times the roughly $2,800 per kilowatt price in China.
To bring costs down, the US would need to mass produce reactors and cultivate a supply chain. This is similar to the challenges the country faces with scaling steel or semiconductor manufacturing, and would ultimately need to be overcome if fusion is to deliver cheaper power.
One European fusion executive summed up the long-term outlook more cautiously: โFusion will find its place within the ecosystem of energy production, but that includes solar, geothermal, wind, nuclear fissionโ.โ.โ.โfusion being an everyday part of humanity where every country has two or three or four fusion power plants, thatโs 2100.โ
If you think nuclear (fission) is expensive, lemme tell you about nuclear fusion.

Coal power falls in China and India for first time in decades
The shift, driven by record installations and softer demand growth, could mark a turning point for the worldโs two biggest coal users
Coal power falls in India and China
Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025 as clean energy grew fast enough in both countries to meet rising electricity demand.

Widely used pesticide linked to more than doubled Parkinson's risk
A new study from UCLA Health has found that long-term residential exposure to the pesticide chlorpyrifos is associated with more than a 2.5-fold increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
When profits are the priority instead of people, there is no accountability for the mega-corporations that produce these harmful products and use their clout to lobby against sensible regulations. We saw this with the tobacco industry and it is happening over and over again across all sectors....

Can โgreenโ fireworks really prevent Diwali air pollution bomb in Delhi?
So-called green fireworks may emit less smoke than conventional ones in controlled tests but scientists and doctors are sceptical about difference in real-world impact
After years of ineffective fireworks ban during Diwali, India's supreme court said it's allowing "limited use of green crackers" in an attempt to balance culture and environment. But experts are sceptical.
Air quality in Delhi has already plunged.
