One of the most notable motifs on the bell is the apsara(flying celestial figure), which also inspired this merch design. Kneeling on a lotus seat above the clouds and holding an incense burner, the figure appears to be ascending into the sky.

It's said that casting the Great Bell of King Seongdeok requiredabout 19 tons of copper, an enormous amount even by today's standards. The bell itself weighs around 18.9 tons. It's known for its incredibly advanced casting technique, beautiful detailed patterns, and its deep, clear sound - showing just how sophisticated Silla's technology and Buddhist culture were at the time.

Meanwhile,the belis also known by the nickname "Emille." People say the sound ofthe bell resembles the word "Emille," which is linked to a legend that a child was sacrificed during the casting of the bell. Of course, modern material analysis has shown that this story is just a legend.

WHAT KOREAN HERITAGE IS HIDDEN IN BTS' ARIRANG MERCH?

The "2026 BTS X MU:DS (National Museum of Korea Foundation’s brand) Collaboration Merch" was just revealed, inspired by a piece of Korean cultural heritage.

This collaboration merch was created to celebrate BTS's "ARIRANG." Its design draws inspiration from the patterns of the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok, a National Treasure housed at the Gyeongju National Museum

The Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok was completed in 771. It's the largest surviving bell in Korea, and the only Silla-era bell that still preserves its original form and sound, which makes it historically significant.

JIMIN's voice is one of the most important auditory elements that sets the tone for BTS music.
