Well, it turns out a vote for Donald Trump was a vote to start wars not end them. No president in modern history has ordered more military attacks against as many nations as Trump. And now he's started a war in the Middle East, the exact thing he campaigned against.

My heart is first with the innocent civilians yet again in harm's way: Israelis, Iranians, Palestinians, and far too many others across the region.
The pain of watching places in Tel Aviv & beyond destroyed; people killed in a synagogue bomb shelter; school children in Iran. It's all unbearable.
Here are two truths:
1. The Iranian regime is repressive, dangerous, & a threat to the Iranian people, the Israeli people, & the entire region
2. There is zero indication the administration started this war with clear goals, plans, constitutionally-required authorization, or international support
The last 48 hours have been a reminder of how quickly we can fall into false binaries when it comes to the Middle East. Multiple things are true at the same time -- and we need to grapple with that complexity if we ever expect to find a better path forward.
