I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

It’s not something I’ve ever taught, but one of my senior colleagues told me once “Die halbe Birne” was kind of a show stopper in his lectures. The story is sexually explicit and one could say obscene. The language is quite visual, and I can imagine students bursting in laughter while reading this.

ok #medievalsky what's the funnest medieval source? like the one that students really respond to, or just the one that you absolutely delight in talking about?

for me it's Marie de France's LAIS

"The book without a name. If you don't want to buy it, that's fine." #bookhistory folks, this was a marketing thing and actually published in 1720 Germany.

What I look like after studying ~500 year old books for four business days at @britishlibrary.bsky.social 😅

A typical decorating ornament from a page of an eighteenth century newspaper made in Zurich, Switzerland. The ornament features three heads, 2 smiling men and a woman, made of symbols.

I see text emoji's in this ornament from an eighteenth century news print. #textemoji #newshistory

What a great pleasure to spend four days at this wonderful place of knowledge and learning. Looking at ~500 year old books is always an exciting thing to do. #booklove #librariesaremyfavouriteplace

“Any person who keeps working is not a failure. They may not be great writers, but if they apply the old-fashioned virtues of hard, constant labour, they’ll eventually make some kind of career for themselves as writers.”

Folks into #Latin, I'm stuggling to understand a usage of the verb "colliduntur," which others seem to take as meaning "composed" (3rd pl pres pass ind--I get all that), even though I don't understand how they get that meaning of the verb. More details down thread. #MedievalSky #ClassicsSky

The pronoun labeler, which was by far the most useful labeler on the site, was deleted by its creator. But thanks to @ripperoni.com there’s a new one available. I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to share your pronouns or see someone else’s pronouns at a glance.

☞ ☞ ☞ the index finger is a pointing gesture to be found in manuscript and print traditions. It was used to draw the reader's attention to a certain part of a text or image. This slow-moving thread highlight a few of them:

Look what arrived today, or at least the ebook did. This is the first encyclopedia devoted exclusively to medieval women’s writing globally, focusing on the thousand-year period between 500-1500. Entries on about 250 women writers plus longer thematic essays. You’re welcome.

Heute: Rustikales Baguette
