Sorry I wasn't clear, Andrew was talking about streaming, a subscription service like Tidal or Spotify, but you can buy downloads from Bandcamp and other places, which is a file you can store on your computer, on a disc or on the web, and will be owned by you forever, an alternative to CDs or vinyl.
Good argument. But you can generally also download music, which is permanent (as long as your storage disc or web account survives). You don't have the beauty of the vinyl record sleeve, but you still own the music!
