It is great to be in Paris on the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. In a special reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French government emphasised their support for science & scientists. It is an absolute honour to be here with more than 600 of the top researchers in the world!
The goal is to provide an assessment on the current state of climate science, climate change impacts, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation. The challenge is to ensure that the most robust scientific information is available for climate policies.

A climate change induced tragedy. A 47-year-old construction worker died in Emilia-Romagna due to high heat. Construction workers are amongst the most vulnerable to heat stress.
We need proactive labour protection policies. Protecting workers from heat is protecting human rights.

Older/younger workers, those with health conditions, in high-exposure sectors (construction, agriculture), or doing physical jobs are more vulnerable.
Hourly/commission workers often face a choice: risk health or lose pay.
Workers without regular contracts are not empowered
Early warnings reduced negative impacts of heat stress partially.
Advanced alerts reduced the probability of workers reporting adverse health effects du e to high heat by ~5 percentage-points
Employer actions - cooling & hydration access improved productivity and lessened health effects.
