The flamingoes are a nod to the Arndale Centre, which, when built in the 70s, had a bunch of them by a fountain. Caused uproar in the town when removed!

2/ And I LOVED Don Diego & the Good Fairy. My fellow @pandemonialists.bsky.social @bigstevepoet.bsky.social and @davethepitt.bsky.social were both brilliant.
Luton have flamingoes (so I did my flamingo poem), and they have lovely street art...

1/ I love performing at spoken word nights in different parts of the country to where I'm based as I get to see performers that I've not seen before. Utter Lutonia was splendid last night. Fantastic hosting by Lee Nelson . Great to meet and hear Karene Horner-Hughes and Cheryl Prince.

Why would the people of Durham not vote Reform - what's not to like about increasing council tax, cutting Β£12.9m from services, having a Deputy Leader who posts AI lies or a Leader who ran two companies that went bust owing more than Β£500k in tax?

Luton bought Championship players ready for the return. Problem was that they then thought they were too good for the Championship, so a whole new rebuilding exercise began (badly.....).

Excellent LTFC connection to GB Baseball.

The GB starting pitcher in the opener of the World Baseball Classic, Jack Anderson, is the son of former Luton midfielder Peter Anderson.

LTFC getting a mention from the US commentators.

No, he left Luton 6 months after relegation. Luton didn't get relegated until the final whistle on the final day.

Pride in Luton to close, bringing an end to annual Pride festival and wider community work **Pride in Luton** , the town’s leading LGBTQ+ charity, is to close after its trustees voted to dissolve the organisation and begin an orderly wind‑down, bringing an end to its flagship annual festival and wider community work. In a statement issued by the charity, trustees confirmed that the **Pride in Luton Festival** planned for **13 June 2026** will no longer take place. Smaller events scheduled over the coming weeks will continue for now, with organisers promising to update the community should plans change. Trustees described the decision as a profoundly difficult one, following what they called β€œa challenging year”. They concluded that the charity β€œno longer has the organisational capacity required to sustain the charity in a way that delivers the governance, stability and impact our community deserves.” They added that responsible governance meant acknowledging when an organisation cannot continue to operate at the standard expected, choosing to close β€œwith integrity rather than compromise quality or accountability”. A formal and compliant wind‑down process is now under way. Trustees emphasised that all outstanding commitments will be fulfilled and any remaining funds will be used strictly in line with the charity’s original purposes and legal obligations. The charity reflected proudly on its achievements since launching, highlighting its role in creating visible LGBTQIA+ celebration in Luton, supporting community connection, and contributing to inclusion and belonging across the town. They stressed that while Pride in Luton is closing, the need for β€œsafe, affirming and community‑led LGBTQIA+ spaces in Luton remains as important as ever.” In a message to supporters, the trustees thanked volunteers, performers, partners, sponsors and community members for their β€œtime, trust and commitment”, noting that their contributions have shaped the charity’s journey from the outset. The statement closed with a hopeful note that the energy and relationships built in recent years will continue to grow β€œin new and sustainable ways”.

Costa Rica gets back to nature after decades of deforestation Paying farmers to swap cattle for conservation has helped sway the balance in biodiversity’s favour

Costa Rica has shown it *IS* possible to bring back nature on a mass scale, as @thinkorswim.bsky.social outlines in this great piece.

Meanwhile in Ireland all we get is, at best, incremental change and fudging.

Why is Irish nature always just an afterthought?

The problem with expecting Labour to learn from their mistakes is they don’t recognise mistakes, they think they know better than voters on anything and everything. This is why along with the Tories they are finished.
