Every bullet fired, every bomb dropped puts more $$ in someoneโs pocket.
Worth remembering as the Trump admin seems to be gearing up for an attack on Iran.
War has a profit incentive for a small group of very wealthy people.

Nicki Minaj has a track record of defending sexual abusers and pedophiles, so her support of Trump is on brand.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call โsymbolic compliance.โ
Thatโs when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
So all colleges and universities will bring back the DEI stuff they cut when obeying in advance right...............................................................................................................................................right?
Calling all the PhDs I know to make monumental annoyances of themselves (and honestly, who better)
Men will literally torpedo the stock market and threaten to annex Greenland instead of going to therapy.
Thatโs why SNLโs Heated Rivalry/Harry Potter sketch isnโt funny.
Rowling is a gleeful proponent of harming trans and queer people. Itโs not funny to continue normalizing her.
โAbolish ICEโ isnโt radical, it doesnโt go far enough.

JK Rowling is an anti-queer gender fascist.
So when you make Harry Potter references without even a nod to her oppressive views, you look sus.
Exciting to see my research with @francescorampazzo.com get so much attention!
I also appreciate how this piece pushes against the misleading reporting from the Daily Mail that claimed our study shows that lesbians are โdying out.โ As PinkNews points out, thatโs a transphobic dog whistle.

"The term 'lesbian' is dying out"
Well, I'm not sure if I, as an demiromantic asexual lesbian, would have even come to the conclusion to be a lesbian, rather than "just broken", if it weren't for the a-spec labels! ๐ณ๏ธโ๐

My co-author @francescorampazzo.com (the lead author of the study) puts it well here.
Lesbians arenโt โdisappearing.โ Theyโre just getting more company!
The overall number of queer people is risingโthere are more people identifying as lesbian today AND more people are identifying with other LGBTQIA+ labels.
The Daily Mailโs headline is wrong.
A sad attempt by a conservative tabloid to pit LGBTQIA+ people against each other.
Screenshot of Daily Mail headline: โThe term lesbian is dying out: Gen Z are opting for more modern identities including queer, pansexual, or asexual, study finds.โ
The @dailymail.co.uk just reported on my research.
But their framing is wrong.
Lesbian identities arenโt โdying out.โ
So-called โnewโ identities (like pansexual, queer, asexual, etc.) arenโt โreplacingโ older ones. Theyโre adding to the ways people can plug into queerness.
That would be great. You can reach me at cwiner@niu.edu.
Hi there! This book sounds interestingโand super relevant to several courses I teach. Iโll definitely check it out.
When we say โevolving,โ we mean that the way people identify as a macro level is evolving. Our data is part of a wave of data indicating that weโre seeing a proliferation in ways people identify sexuallyโpartially because awareness of a broader array of identities is rising.

We found that Zoe users in countries as varied as Tajikistan, Yemen, Oman, Uzbekistan, the UAE, Tunisia, and Tanzania selected โasexualโ as their sexual orientation.
This is powerful evidence that asexuality isn't just a Western or anglophone identity.
and 3) research on asexuality has overwhelmingly focuses on wealthy, Western, English-speaking countries like the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.
Our findings indicate the need for researchers to expand their focus beyond those countries.
This is significant for several reasons, including:
1) dating apps are generally assumed to underrepresent asexual users (meaning our data likely underestimates the prevalence of asexuality);
2) most global datasets that measure sexuality donโt include asexuality as an option
For this study, we examined the sexual orientation users listed on their dating profiles.
Asexuality appeared in every age group and across multiple world regions, despite representing less than 1% of all users.

Asexuality is a global identity.
Thatโs a major finding in a study I recently published with @francescorampazzo.com in Demographic Research.
Analyzing dating app data spanning 162 countries from over 900,000 users, we found that asexuality showed up in every age group and in every region.
An early Christmas gift from @demresjournal.bsky.social: new publication with @cantonwiner.bsky.social and Milan Kovaฤiฤ on sexuality using dating app data. A great example of how social scientists and industry can collaborate to produce global, inclusive research.
