Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X

I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.

OpenAI head of robotics just resigned over company deal with the Pentagon saying…

Everyone needs to be talking about this.

I also think that Sean was trying to appear like a "normal" press sec and I think Leavitt's job is pretty explicitly to agitate and cajole as much as possible without really being expected to deliver a coherent message.

I remember him as a very shouty guy.

I am very "jury's out" on Leavitt if only because the whole operation seems several orders of magnitude more chaotic than 1.0 did.

Yeah it would've been fairly distressing if there were no actual consequences. At least the world still follows the laws of physics.

It's oddly reassuring to see war with Iran going exactly like how everyone has said it would for the last several decades

I understand why you'd say that, but this strikes me as one of those 1 or 0 type of situations. The substantive decision is pretty well out of your hands.

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

Cancellation of Army exercise fuels speculation about Mideast troop deployments The abrupt cancellation of a training event has put a spotlight on the 82nd Airborne Division, which specializes in ground combat and other fraught missions.

Biden pardoned a bunch of public servants and his own son (which eh) to isolate them from Trump's lawless DOJ. Trump pardons a bunch of criminals in exchange for bribes. To Ken Vogel, this is the same.

Yeah it's somehow still underrated but Biden (and Harris by extension because she was operating under the thesis of no daylight) essentially did everything possible to avoid clamping down on Israel against the trendline of their own party's base and the response from the pro-Israel lobby was scorn.

There it is, that's the euphemism we expect from a former ERP software exec at Microsoft. We love a partner channel oriented king, don't we folks?

It takes real galaxy brains to mass cancel solar and wind projects and then start a pointless unpopular war that sends oil prices soaring.

Darkly funny he had enough self-awareness to revert to "Department of Defense" here.
