Co-production workshops to understand how infectious diseases spread during outbreaks | Co-Production Collective

Please circulate! Are you or do you know someone from groups particularly affected by Mpox, & those less likely to be heard by researchers? We are working with @thelovetankcic.bsky.social to organise workshops seeking to improve modelling response.

This amazing bus is the Moon Palace - a wonderful project between art and Physics to create a space to inspire people how the universe works. If you’re in London over 20-21 Feb, drop into the courtyard outside Royal Astronomical Society and take a look eps.leeds.ac.uk/faculty-engi...

Ice spike - Wikipedia

I think that’s what it is

14.02.2026 16:47 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I don’t think it was this as there doesn’t appear to be a hole. Could be a drip from the gutter above but even that looks to be in the wrong place

14.02.2026 16:47 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It’s just a shallow puddle on top of a plastic container and there’s no hole so I don’t think it’s expansion.

Does anyone know how this formed? Ice funnel about 7cm high and 2cm diameter sticking up from a sheet of ice on a horizontal plastic surface.

You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.

A piece of covid pandemic history spotted yesterday. This must have been from sometime in Feb 2020 and the poster was probably only relevant for 2-3 weeks. It’s easy to forget now how little we knew and how fast things moved in the early days.

The sneeze secret: how much should you worry about this explosive reflex? It is one of the most powerful involuntary actions the human body can perform. But is a big sneeze a sign of illness, pollution or something else entirely?

Great to chat with Joel Snape about all things sneezing. Great seeing comments from @cathnoakes.bsky.social too

'Some people have 10 million times more virus than others': Are you a flu superspreader? A growing body of research suggests that everything from the shape of your lungs to how you enunciate your Ts and Ks could make you a flu superspreader.

I was recently asked to comment on superspreading for a BBC article. Little did I know, my quote would become the title!

Feasibility and Safety of Aerosolized Influenza Virus Challenge in Humans Using Two Modern Delivery Systems This study demonstrates that aerosolized influenza virus can be safely administered to healthy adults using two modern delivery systems. Controlled aerosol

To study influenza infections, we inoculated human participants with aerosolized virus: coarse particles generated by a flow-focusing monodisperse aerosol generator and fine particles generated by a medical nebulizer. academic.oup.com/jid/article-...

There are a lot of horrible things happening in the world. I can't offer answers, or even cat pics. But I have been having a go at taking some cave pics while away at new year. First time for a while. Hopefully you will like them.

I wonder how many millions in productivity is lost each year because cross country trains are too cramped to work on and the 4G signal is terrible? I love visiting colleagues at Birmingham uni, but I loathe the trains.

I had 2 nights on a multi bed ward last year and the sheer amount of noise all the time really struck me. So many bleeps/alarms and absolutely no privacy in conversations despite the sensitivity of some of the patient conditions. I eventually worked out how to silence my own drip stand alarm!
