The official NOAA stats out this week confirm that winter 2025-26 was the warmest on record across a huge portion of the western and central U.S., which has contributed to extremely low mountain snowpack & worsened the CO River crisis. Meanwhile, record March heat is in forecast.

Thanks for posting this! Recently retired to Mesquite and wondered who the artists was behind these creations. They are a bit of unexpected kitsch-y joy out here in the desert. Love them.

80-year-old Mesquite man, former Olympian, creates sandstone art for thousands to see Pete Karns has been spending his retirement creating sandstone sculptures in the hillside of Mesquite, just outside of southern Utah. Karns is also a former winter Olympic athlete.

Oh dear.
Absolutely regretful
It would be as sad if the art was any good.

This reminds me of the video of all the Sinclair Broadcast Group's anchors mindlessly parroting the same dishonest, right-wing script. We are living in a time rife with propaganda.

Sec. Collins promised his VA reforms wouldn't impact veterans' care access. As @reptimkennedy.bsky.social said, that promise was broken. Collins cut 10,000+ positions for doctors, nurses, & clinical staffβ€”leaving veterans with fewer options & longer wait times. We need a fully staffed & funded VA.

Phil Lyman Announces Candidacy for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District
Former State Representative Challenges Federal Overreach, Pledges to Defend Rural Utah's Economic Future and Restore Government Transparency

BLANDING, UT (March 5, 2026) – Phil Lyman today officially announced his candidacy to represent Utah’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, launching a campaign focused on ending federal overreach, defending Utah's right to develop its own natural resources, and restoring transparency to government on the issues that matter most to families in Utah’s 3rd Congressional district.

β€œUtah is at a crossroads," said Lyman. "We need representation in Washington that understands the delicate balance between our thriving urban centers and our vital rural communities. I am running for Congress to restore transparency to our government. Utahns deserve to know exactly what is happening behind closed doors.”

Lyman, a Certified Public Accountant, business owner, former Utah State Representative, and former gubernatorial candidate, is building his campaign around three core principles:

Transparency in Government: Rural communities generate millions in tax revenue but often get shortchanged on infrastructure investment. Lyman will fight to change that. "As a CPA, I know how to follow the money," Lyman said. "Rural Utah deserves its fair share, and Washington needs to stop making backroom deals that lock up our land and kill our economy."
America First Principles for Natural Resources and Economy: Utah should control its own resources. Washington bureaucrats should not. That means defending coal, oil and natural gas jobs, stopping federal land grabs, and proposing common-sense solutions. "We will work with Federal agencies to develop reliable power and open up our public lands," Lyman said.
Peace Through Strength: Real national security means energy independence. Lyman will fight to bring rare earth mineral processing back from China to rural…

Ahead of tonight’s State of the Union, we’re looking at the impact of President Trump’s tax policies one year into his second administration.

The bottom line is that all but the richest Americans are paying more in taxes this year.

Utahns: because the GOP waited until super late to drop signature packets, there’s a chance many of those signatures are from people who were deceived into signing. You have 45 days since the packets were deposited - til March 30 - to get your name removed if you were tricked.
