One town over to the west in Kameoka, the Hozugawa river boat back toward Kyoto, a 2hr relaxing ride through a few rapids
Lunch at Ranbetsurou. This is a suppon (soft shelled turtle) ramen with unagi (eel), and plum juice; terrific and served in a unique brass metal bowl atop a small lit flame stand to keep it piping hot

Visited the Kiseki knife manufacturer and picked up their santoku knife, whetstone, and cutting boards. Kiseki makes industrial cutting equipment but are dabbling in knives known for their incredible strength

Unagi bowl, with soup and pickled plum, at Tsujiya. The restaurant has been operating for over 160 years. Unagi is considered food that gives you strength, required for swordsmithing. The eel was delicious, cooked over woodfired grills. Always try it with yuzu pepper!
