Ace lunch with Kate at favourite local bistro Quality Wines. Gildas, Focaccia, Panino con Bollito, Omek Houria, Cassoulet of Salt Cod, Trompettes de la Mort & Bayonne Ham, and Saucisse PurΓ©e. Then Quince & Almond Tart. The set lunch is one of the best value meals in London
β¦ then back to the Barbican free stage for the Polish jazz session (had to miss Immortal Onion to get to pre-Mulatu beers with damn fine people). Starting with lunch at Quality Wines on Sat, thatβs was a bloody good weekend.
β¦ followed by ace live performances from the Melbourne Jazz Festival at the Barbican free stage. On Sunday more jazz on film: a Dutch doc on Ben Jonson House Webster, and a French doc on Cecil Taylor. Both really interesting, but the Taylor one was more about their performance.
A brilliant weekend of jazz. The highlight was the mighty Mulatu Astatke at the RFH. A real privilege to see him again, but a sadness that it was his last tour. An incredible performance. Before that: on Sat at the Barbican Cinema, 4 hours of Derek Baileyβs superb Improvisation in Music documentary.
Just a dog version of our ATP chalet post-clubbing.

Where would our city be without its transport workers? They keep London moving and as weβve seen in recent days, they can be heroes in moments of real adversity.
To every transport worker, from our bus drivers to our station staff: thank you for all you do. You are truly valued.
