Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then-prime minister of India, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, during the latter’s state visit to India in 2007. Dr. Singh planned to visit the UAE in 2013, but never materialized.
The Gulf has often been the premise of Malayalam films. M T Vasudevan Nair’s script gave life to the first one, ‘Vilkkanundu Swapnangal’ (1980), which tells the story of a Malayali youth traveling to the Gulf to build his fortunes. The film was shot in Dubai and Sharjah.
