Honestly I fully support pushing Marines out for gang/extremist tattoos (and wish they were as aggressive with white nationalism as they are gangs), but imo the sleeve ban was just a desperate ploy to try and pretty up marine culture for optics.

I was on active duty in 2009 when the sleeve ban came down. The general rule was that every existing forearm tattoo was photographed and grandfathered in. The exception was tattoos determined to be gang or extremist in nature.
