Bit of a change working in an office 5 days a week after nearly 9 years working from home. I do miss the hours Iβm losing to commuting. The office banter however is excellent.

First week of work at ${newJob} almost over. Iβm surviving the commute into town. Looking forward to the weekend mind. Met up with an old friend this lunchtime in the cafe which was nice. Heβs worked here since leaving school. Paid Β£1 for a Crunchie. Madness!
Third aborted attempt to recycle at local tip. Queue to main road again. Decided to go to the larger one, expecting a massive queue. Sailed straight through, hardly any one there. Goes to show you.
Last week at liberty after probably the longest spell of unemployment in my working life. It's also back to the office full time after nearly 9 years working from home, which should be interesting.
To be honest, electric cars have been overtaking my diesel for a while now.
That picture would have been taken around 1995, give or take, 30 years ago now. How time flies. In many ways its a shame that we didn't have the digital cameras and socials we have now, we'd have more than a handful of pictures to look at and share. Still, we've got great memories to fall back on.
Yeah, it really got to me when I heard heβd passed. He was a great guy.
On the plus side, the continued training since running the Manchester 10K this year has paid dividends. Iβve lost the 2st I gained during the Covid pandemic and feel much fitter and happier for it.
Last month was eventful to say the least. Was made redundant from what seemed like a fairly secure job. Been there over 8 years. Currently looking for a new job.
I mean, there's some pretty awful AI generated guff in that plan.
The amount of information that is required from guarantors for student letting agents is ridiculous. Bank statements, house deed/mortgage statement, utility bill, passport/driving license photograph, reference from employer, inside leg measurement, and so on. I'm sure it is getting worse.
Waking up to the news of that flash flood in Texas. Terrible tragedy.
Nah, just down by that. Iβd be calling for an ambulance if it were that low.
So far the exercise regime is working out; gym on Mon, Wed and Fri, and swim on Tue, Thu and Sat. Average heartbeat is down 20bpm when running 5K on treadmill. Am gradually losing weight. I feel a lot fitter for this.
Capitalism makes us fat then sells us weight loss jabs.
In many ways, it's already died. Compare Old English with Modern for example.
News thumbnail from The Guardian: "UK and India agree βlandmarkβ trade deal after three years of negotiations. Deal could help UK industries hit by Trump tariffs, as ministers say it will add Β£4.8bn a year to economy by 2040". The picture is showing Keir Starmer and Indiaβs Narendra Modi shaking hands.
The handshake meme showing a guy in a white shirt looking a bit uncertain whilst another guy in a suit shakes his hand.
This is quite worrying. Even if it doesnβt contain credit card information, I donβt really want my personals in the hands of hackers.
The local election results are in and the worst part of it will be how smug Farage will be for the rest of the decade.
My Manchester 10K pack
Looking forward to this, with some trepidation. Long Covid still lingers.
Proper warm in the garden this afternoon.
Part of the problem is scalpers using bots to buy up slots to sell at inflated prices. Surely it canβt be that hard to block them?
Very true. Even in Manchester we had great difficulty booking a test around our youngestβs university breaks. He ended up coming home for the day for it. This was months after he was told he was ready to take it. Thankfully he passed first time. It wasnβt this bad for my other kids.
Still from Space Cowboys showing the main cast inside the space shuttle.
No, seriously. Just send these guys upβ¦
Me facing my beer in a hotel bar.
And relax. Happy Friday everyone.
Does anyone else have a favourite spoon, or is it just me?
...And Ferranti's Gem Mill factory in Chadderton made custom ULA chips for Sinclair and Acorn.
Jump forward 35 years and Manchester had a booming computer games industry. Ocean, Software Creations, Binary Design, Tiertex, A&F/Lothlorien, Zippo/Z2, to name the handful that spring immediately to mind...
