Hey @rbeggin.bsky.social - you might want to look into how "new" the accountability measure of "judicial warrants before entering people's homes" is.
Histogram showing the heat pumps will work easily 100 percent of the time in the San Francisco bay area.
Replaced our furnace with a heat pump in Albany, CA this fall and it looks like we are in the 100% easy zone! So why did I wait so long?!?
We cannot settle for empty reforms while ICE and CBP terrorize our communities, violate our constitutional rights, and kill innocent people. Demand that your Democratic senators hold the line and use their leverage to secure real restrictions on the regime’s secret police.
A recent paper by Stephen Stack (and me) digs in on these issues. The green transition is happening. But we need smart, people-based and place-based policies to support workers and communities during the transition. (2/2) journals.plos.org/sustainabili...
Despite Trump’s commitment to fossil fuels, the repeal of the IRA is leaving fossil fuel dependent communities behind. Coal is not coming back. And solar and wind - again despite Trump’s efforts - continue to grow. But green jobs will not automatically replace coal or oil jobs in the same areas. 1/2

Gen Z turnout for Mamdani and Prop 50 were high.
Great article from @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social: "Gen Z has the lowest racial resentment of any generation ever studied." "The story of Gen Z isn’t one of racist backlash or “red-pilled” young men" but "the most racially progressive generation in American history." newrepublic.com/article/2030...

A rally on the steps of Sproul Hall at UC Berkeley "Standing Up for Science."
Mainly horrible news in the world. But also encouraged by the #TeslaTakedown protests across the country today. And the #StandUpforScience rallies last week. People are mad and want to fight Trump & Musk.
Today I learned the meaning of the word Quisling.
New paper (in review) up on SSRN. Stephen Stack and I map some of the key impacts of energy transitions across the US.
I think the NFL basically blocked Trump from owning a team.
Burawoy was truly amazing. An exemplary academic and an even better person. Brilliant, generous, engaged, supportive, funny. Always committed to positive social change. He changed so many lives and will be deeply missed.

This is great news! Housing over transit, with affordable and market rate apartments. Huge benefits for Berkeley.
Agreed. This is embarrassing capitulation - by pretty much the whole tech sector - even before he takes office.
Awesome how all of these brilliant, independent, iconoclast, disruptors - Bezos, Altman, Zuckerberg, Benioff - are kissing the ring of the incumbent. Must be some 3D chess we don't understand.
UC Berkeley Athletics scores two own goals! First they choose to play in the LA Bowl ("Hosted by Gronk!") in the middle of finals week, forcing hundreds of students to travel during finals. And then they hire the former-WSU anti-vax football coach. The values misalignment gets starker and starker.

Tsunami warning on 12/5/24 in the Bay Area of CA.
Whoa. Tsunami warning in California.
David, respectfully, then you might imagine how some might read your "too cozy" comment as tone policing.
Thanks to Bruce Riordan, Amy Lerman, and BCCN for hosting 30+ people working on Climate Policy across the Berkeley campus. Exciting potentials at Cal to connect work in California, China, India ++ advancing green transitions and climate justice. Also great meeting @ethanelkind.bsky.social
