Quick question does anyone know how to restore virtue to a decaying society
Quick question does anyone know how to restore virtue to a decaying society
Optical illusion of a woman bent over some papers. Her sunglasses are pushed up and she is wearing a hair band so the top of her head looks exactly like a Muppet face
Sorry I know the world is in a terrible fix but I've been laughing at this for ten minutes now
But I didnβt want us to be an Axis power in WWIII
Iβd buy it
Also have heard from a friend who used to work at Le Diplomat that sheβs the best tipper on SCOTUS
Thank you, I am and always have been (well, since 1998) Too Online
Is this press conference the equivalent of waiting for Justine to get off that plane?
Why is NPR holding back here? We all know whatβs happening. They havenβt been subtle about it. You can just say what you see happening with your own eyes without turning it into a both sides article
Eek, Iβm glad it didnβt start a fire!
Also a Tudor revival house Iβve driven past but donβt remember the address of, and I think at least one other church? He also designed the old jail, but that was flattened in a big tornado in I think the late 90s or early 2000s
He designed the smaller, original chapel of this churchβ www.fortwortharchitecture.com/east/ctkcath...
Itβs just kind of appalling to see people using it for things that would take them maybe a couple of extra minutes to actually think through and use their brains for. I feel like Iβm watching them lose skills in real time
Before she married my grandfather she wanted to be a fashion designer, but then she married a man who already had six kids, and then she had my dad. So it goes
And to give equal time to my grandmothersβ
Maternal: RN, trained for the Cadet Nurse Corps in WWII (but never deployed, the war ended first) and rising to head nurse at a hospital
Paternal: an exceptional homemaker with exquisite fashion and decorating taste, and an incredible cook and baker
Maternal: First job was as a soldier in WWII, then he was a welder at a barge-building company.
Paternal: architect and engineer, got into business with no college degree as an apprentice. Designed a few buildings still standing in Fort Worth, TX
A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, itβs not a publishing problem, itβs a men problem.
Between this and several stories today of people using ChatGPT in completely asinine, unnecessary ways, I am a little bit despairing
I hate the future actually
Iβm quite composed when discussing money that is entirely hypothetical and isnβt going to happen, yeah
Listen. I was a theatre major
Yeah Iβd rather the money be rolled into, say, universal healthcare
Maybe squeeze those 900 people a bit more and hand out $6000 checks to poor people.
Yeah Iβm not THAT well off. I have a kid to take care of and childcare is expensive and my savings are not what they should be
That said, as a middle classer myself, while I could do good things with that money, Iβd rather it go to someone whoβs actually poor
If you can provide $3k checks for the entire middle class of America by taxing 900 people a little more, not only should you do it, but you should take it as a signal that your monetary system is broken
I know so many people whose lives would begin to stabilise if they got a $3k cheque.
Growing up as a solidly built teenager in the worst of the βheroin chicβ years I noticed this cultural difference and was wistfully jealous. Seems like a better way to live
Something about the job market for entry positions in coding being absolutely dead, while seniors are proudly saying "Yeah, I'm a cool guy, I delegate 99 percent of my work to a machine that is often incorrect" doesn't sit right with me
For example, the presumed frontrunner for 2028, Newsom, is out here talking about Democrats needing to be more βculturally normalβ and throwing trans people under the bus. We donβt need to do that. People who hate trans people will simply vote for Republicans
Thereβs nothing incompatible with being a progressive and also leading with a message of affordabilityβ Mamdani did it, most notably. And in any case, whatβs worrying me is not individual candidates in local districts, itβs national level messaging from the party, who they back and who they kneecap
