the steady normalization of surveillance as daily life."

DHS should shutter the El Paso ICE camp, @repescobar.bsky.social & Dems said, noting at least one of the 3 deaths there was in part to 'poor medical care by staff.' Another a homicide involving staff. ICE alleged suicide in a third, but won't release the autopsy.

I don't know what level of dystopia we've reached when we tout expanding immigration detention by tens of thousands as job opportunities for local communities.

This is an important insight. Miller, Vance, and co see immigrants as the enemy, as the other. But they also see anyone siding with immigrants, citizen or not, as the enemy, too. And they want to make sure people see that aligning with immigrants makes you vulnerable to state violence.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!
ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.
He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

NEW: We @immcouncil.org just published a big new report on the growth of ICE detention in Trump's first year back in office. Not only do we track the rising scale of the detention infrastructure, we explain how changing enforcement tactics have shifted the profile of who is locked up by ICE.

Opinion | ICE's violence is no accident
Alan Elrod: The killing of a woman by an immigration enforcement officer in Minneapolis was the raw application of Trumpist authoritarianism.
"ICE has waged a recruitment drive drenched in war metaphors and martial imagery. The type of person sought...is someone with a fervor for guns and an eagerness to apply violence."
Good work by @aselrod.bsky.social putting shooting in context of MAGA's violent ethos:

One of the many tragic things about Renee Good’s murder is that it happened because this administration’s hatred of immigrants and its obsession to making these raids a show to make people afraid. Her death was entirely avoidable but this administration doesn’t seem to give a shit.

Who could have predicted that sending heavily armed, poorly trained federal agents into American neighborhoods could have ended like this? It's shocking yes, but not surprising sadly. Sending strength to folks in Minneapolis today.

Tricia McLaughlin
@TriciaOhio
Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.
An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.
He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.
The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.
This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement. These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
This is an evolving situation, and we will give the public more information as soon as it becomes available.

DHS's first official statement is out, and they call the woman who was shot a domestic terrorist who they claim was trying to kill an ICE agent.
As a reminder, Tricia McLaughlin's post-shooting statements have been proven to be false MULTIPLE times in the past. They are simply not trustworthy.

‘Unchecked Authority’: Senate Report Details ICE and CBP’s Brazen and Unlawful Abuses Against Americans
“Kavanaugh stops” in action: Among U.S. citizens harassed or detained by mass deportation agents include a six-year-old girl despicably used as human bait in order to lure her father.
A Senate investigation documents “brazen lawlessness” by ICE and CBP, including rejecting proof of U.S. citizenship, using excessive force, and fabricating charges.
As @tusk81.bsky.social writes, "This harassment campaign has been unsparing, even snatching up American children."

‘The Holy Family Were Refugees’: Church Nativity Scenes Push Back On Trump’s Ugly Mass Deportation Agenda
“If the Holy Family had been in Charlotte two weeks ago, they would have been putting the baby Jesus in handcuffs because he wouldn’t have his papers,” said one faith leader.
Across Illinois, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, faith communities are refusing to stay silent. Churches are using their nativity scenes to call out the Trump administration’s cruel and chaotic anti-immigrant policies that are tearing families apart right now.

Look For The Helpers: Americans Come Together To Protect Immigrant Neighbors
From buying out food vendors’ products to blowing whistles in order to warn about immigration agents, Americans are finding new and creative ways to defend immigrant communities.
From Seattle to L.A., Chicago, and now Charlotte, communities are stepping up as Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda grows more violent and indiscriminate.
"The ways that community members are helping their immigrant neighbors truly are ingenious and varied."

Looking at this a bit more closely, this guy won PRECISELY BECAUSE he raised the "salience" of immigration via attacking ICE raids, and this won by a sizable margin in one of the most important swing counties of all, Bucks County in Pennsylvania.

As @tusk81.bsky.social wrote, "During the past several weeks alone, we’ve seen mass deportation agents operate with an accelerated ruthlessness and impunity"
And that was before ICE showed up at a daycare w/o a warrant.
When Trump said they "haven’t gone far enough," this is exactly what he meant.
