A ceramic tumbler with the moon and a starry sky pattern on it.
Finally getting to use my beautiful new moon tumbler from @amyraehill.bsky.social . I keep grabbing glasses for cold drinks and handled mugs for hot, so it's been waiting for a bit due to being so special.

I look at images of the universe, inspired by the dazzling light that paints our incomprehensibly vast sky & listen to a story of someone who used to work with their kitten right beside them and my job is to put those two things together. I'm just incredibly humbled I get to capture life this way.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context*
Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when
An LLM just generates text
This recent RCT of an "AI stethoscope" claims the technology "shows promise" for diagnosing cardiovascular conditions.
It does not.
It is a textbook example of the risks of conducting unprincipled 'per protocol analyses'. Once again, peer review at a major medical journal has failed.

anti-AI βcredoβ I have a religious exemption from using all generative βA.I.β I am not a member of the Silicon Valley sect. Their beliefs and practices are an affront to my sensibilities. The tech is trained on stolen intellectual property. The output is riddled with mistakes, and it is incapable of comprehending the weight of its errors. It is not even an βit.β But sometimes, it is filtered and massaged by unaccountable human sweatshop workers and bad actors. I am not required to use βA.I.β any more than I am required to join Amway, buy black market rhino horn, or attend the Fyre Festival. As a human, I have a duty and right to limit my carbon and water footprint and protect my fellow human. As a union worker, I have a duty and right to oppose tech that is used to threaten workers or cheapen our product. As a tech consumer, I have a duty and right to oppose scams that lower the quality of our tools. As a scholar, I have a duty and right to oppose anti-intellectualism. As a taxpayer, I have a duty and right to oppose the misallocation of public funds and data. As a grown up, I have a duty and right to protect young people from predators. As a person with a conscience, I am appalled at the decadent disregard for user safety, the callous dismissal of responsibility for lives ruined and slaughtered. My religion is related to my identity, geography, and family, making it an irrelevant accident of birth. What matters is that I was born. A red heart shaped ring box with a white lining on a bright red background with a burgundy heart pattern. In an arc of white text over the ring box is the phrase "There's still time to propose" and in place of a ring is the text "a submission to the ALN Conference 2026 Call for papers"

4 frame comic. A woman with a long purple scarf is waiting for the subway. a street journalist approaches her and asks : miss! do you think we're approaching a moment when the public will recognize that allowing children to be transed was a terrible idea? She replies : considering that with each passing day, the public sees how much of the anti-trans movement was engineered by the wealthy to fuel culture war hate on the back of a vulnerable community, I'd say we owe massive apologies to trans people. just this week, we learned that a decade ago, epstein suggested using trans rights as a wedge issue, and that jk rowling's team was courting him. we also learned that what we were told about the closure of the tavi- stock clinic, the only youth clinic in the u.k. for gender-affirmative care, was nothing but lies. rowling's pal hilary cass forced the clinic to close after reports of 1000 complaints from families. we learned this week that it only received eight over 10 years, mostly about delays. in the meantime, the health dep't has been concealing trans children suicide numbers, which we now know rose dramatically following the closure. The terrible idea was always to scapegoat trans kids.
We owe it to these kids to keep fighting for truth to prevail.
