Then I was a kid in the 80s we'd use 'Beruit' to indicate something desolate, destroyed. Walking into somewhere scruffy you might exclaim "Bloody hell it looks like Beruit in here"
Over time things improved and it fell out of use. Hmm.

When the Austo-Hungarian empire ceased they swapped briefly to Crowns and then from 1924 until the arrival of the Euro in 2001 (with a small WW2 gap ofc) it was Groschen time!
Even before 1919 Austrian stamps have several different currencies possibly to keep me on my toes.

I've been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2* for the past few weeks. It's set in medieval Bohemia and the currency is the Groschen. Ironically Czech stamps do not have Groschen on them as it was long gone by then.
