As if the SciENcv debacle wasn't hard enough to deal with, now a complete shakeup of the study sections....
And alot of the links to the typical review branches on this page are currently pointing to "Access Denied" old pages: public.csr.nih.gov/StudySection...
This describes some of the 2025 NIH study section changes: public.csr.nih.gov/EvaluationIn...

15 years after your key paper with Nelson Lau showing the abundance & widespread nature of piRNAs from 3' UTRs, we now start to get the logic.
dissecting how the Yb protein reads out U-content, and talks to the Upf1-related SF2 helicase Armitage, will be interesting.
The image angle suggests one of your cats perched on the couch is shooting the camera.
Will Venezuela beat Canada for becoming the 51st U.S. state?
Why are you in Kyoto?
Polarize? Or traumatize? Or both?
Truly heartbreakingπ and alarmingly becoming more common for our lab members from overseas. I try hard to reassure my own group while acknowledging the non-scientific challenges to wanting to study here.

Is caviar good value or overpriced? Fishy-tasting? Lots of Seq, but what is the mechanism?
That is quite unfortunate that if there are soooo many examples, those are not included in your manuscript. Wasn't that the point of your original Bluesky post asking the research community about dubious microRNAs? Maybe post an addendum on MirGeneDB that lists all these dubious candidates?
Thanks! Interesting perspective. But how come your perspective did not comment on the mir-548xx family? I thought in our messaging here you also felt mir-548xx was dubious and rejected as a TE? Why didn't your perspective comment on this, it would have been useful to have this in the literature.
Salient that the late Sir John Gurdon's seminal Nobel-prize discoveries of pluripotency was accomplished with Xenopus frogs, another model organism whose NIH funding support has massively declined as much as its invertebrate brethren.

PO's warned R01 renewal odds abysmal, better luck trying to convert R01 to R35 MIRA asap. After trying both approaches, competing renewal definitely DOA, zero empathy for pandemic impact, while MIRA still a crapshoot, reviewers wanted R01 despite MIRA instructions. And now shutdown! FML!
Dude's shirt reads "Back on my Bull Shit"!
This guy's shirt I saw walking to work sums up today's Oval office Dunning Kruger-esque press briefing on ASD.
Thanks! Will send you an email after I'm done with my fall teaching!
Thanks! Is there an infectious clone of PCLV?
We study how the mosquito Piwi pathway molecularly interacts with arboviruses and bunyaviruses. But we don't yet know how to manipulate these viruses as infectious clones. Do you have tips on this?
And the piRNA citations on your page mirgenedb.org/information only cite Tuschl, Hannon, Lin lab papers, but left out mine published at same time: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16778019/ . I would appreciate if you could add our paper: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
I finally took a good look at mirgenedb.org/information. Very useful! I will do more to compare it against miRBase, since they did not reject the bad miR-548. Have you tried to get more consistency between miRBase and mirgenedb?
What is your impression of the hsa-mir-548xxx family of microRNAs? MITEs foldback masquerading as a "miRNA"? We've seen an instance where total mRNA across the mir-548-y locus go way up, but zero increase in mature mir-548-y or any other mir-548-xxx member.
WHY? Just why? Those cards are disturbing on so many levels, and lacking representation of plant biologists like how Nobels passed over Baulcombe and Benning. It was Benning who first coined the name Argonaute for these genes.
