We kan daunse yf if plese us
We kan leave thy friendes behinde
For thy friendes daunse not
and yif thei daunse not
Then no friendes thei are of myne
Ich saye, we kan wende wher it plese us,
A place thei shal nevir fynde
And we can act lyke we come from BrocΓ©liande
Leave the real worlde far behinde

Cover of The Recollections by Christopher Priest, designed by Tom Joyes. Red text on a yellow background.
Praise for The Recollections from Alastair Reynolds: "Christopher Priest cared deeply and passionately about the business of writing. His fiction stands as an argument against complacency and formula, and to that legacy we can now add these insightful, acerbic, self-effacing and frequently very funny ruminations on life, art, and the intersection of the two."

Cover artwork for Banks of the Nile from Fotheringayβs eponymous album with Sandy Denny
Why is it always βWhoβs the best frontman of all-timeβ when no vocalist has ever - nor ever shall - elevate a band as much as Sandy Denny did Fairport and Fotheringay?

Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?
In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:

Very sorry to hear of the death of Christopher H. Bidmead, who meant so much to Doctor Who fans of my generation. Science as the most important thing, numbers as magic, fiction that happens because of science. It should be cold, but itβs full of new life. What a big contribution.

Christopher H Bidmead : a warm, engaging and hugely intelligent man who enjoyed putting the cat among the pigeons on interviews. In real life though, he was approachable and kind: and made the nicest coffee Iβve ever had. Here is is at home in Dec 2013 when he kindly asked me round.
RIP Chris x

Witchwood - Strawbs
YouTube video by Brandon Kloppenburg
Dave Cousins of The Strawbs. RIP. Love them. Like Steeleye Span, a βnovelty hitβ act that, once you explore beyond one hit you vaguely remember from childhood, reveal amazing, rich depths. And soon that lame old cheesy hit starts to sound amazing too. Bit of Witchwood then:

Was frustrating that the hints of the characters knowing they were being watched or filmed (Mrs Flood addressing the camera, "I thought that was non-diegetic" &c) went nowhere and we had the Sutekh malarkey instead, but 73 Yards, Dot & Bubble and Rogue were v. good episodes

Issue 51: David Lynch Archives - Bright Wall/Dark Room
September 2017
A truly awful day for movies and art, losing one of the most singular and brilliant voices to ever make them.
We've unlocked our full David Lynch issue from 2017, which is now entirely free to read.
R.I.P. Mr. Lynch, and thank you forever for the work and example you left us.
