I reviewed the new re-make of the QuickShot II: the peoplesβ flight stick

THANK YOU, Nintendo Life. These guys are the true test for my claim that you'll read something you didn't already know in this bookπ
"Comprehensive but never too dense, informative but approachable, packed with passion... if you want to learn about Nintendo, this is the book to do it."
Still stuck in a boss battle but I love this game.
"Resident Evil is more a competitor to Stranger Things than it is to Clash of Clans. Candy Crush is more directly competing with Tiktok than Fortnite. Roblox is more a rival to the school playground than Street Fighter"

Please note - this should read "fastest selling video game console hardware platform."
The Game Boy Advance is the fastest selling hardware platform overall in the US after 7 months in market.
Apologies for the error.
congrats, Devon π
But, but, the metaverse can't fail because Big Tech has invested so much in it.
www.theverge.com/tech/863209/...
Just because big tech invests billions in a thing does not make said thing an inevitable future.
Canβt wait to see Keir Starmer personally posting about another Labour policy reset over on 8kun
"...we could talk about VR, we could talk about the metaverse, we could talk about crypto. While uniquely different in some ways, they have a few things in common, and one of them is that they always promise to be this next big solution. And I just disagree. It's just historically incorrect."
It's not just "loved", it's best loved.
best loved = best game
Funny enough, apparently he's someone who made a reputation out of travelling to "extreme" countries like Syria, Afghanistan or Iran for "for immersive, different holidays" and "to understand people beyond stereotypes". Made him a lot of good apparently...
Ah yes ok I get that!
It does not have to do with representation, ie "an older Lara" is not THE answer. Even though representation is always important in every medium, I'm not going to want to play a game just because the character is going to be looking as old as me... Just my two cents...
Hence the relaxing sim games or candy crush snack portioned style games or narrative driven/slower paced games. Just something that doesn't DEMAND your constant commitment.
A lot of (dare I say condescending) assumptions here about what 40-60 yos want. That demographic (which is mine) may have disposable income, what they/we have much less is time/headspace to play certain high engagement types of games: that demand 60+ hours to complete, competitive online games, etc
None of this ultimately diminishes what DKB achieves. This is a game that radiates creative, confident joy. I loved every minute of it. π΅β€οΈ
Unfortunately, the core of what constitutes the video game language as a medium - intentional world play/experimentation - and the delivery of pure, pop, feel good emotion are not what juries and academies tend to reward in their pursuit of some kind of film-like sense of gravitas.
Yet none of this ever seems to have registered with any of the major video game awards, because...
What genuinely frustrates me, though, is how little recognition the gameβs audio gets. The sound design is extraordinary (everything you do SOUNDS deeply satisfying) the music is joyful, and Jenny Kiddβs expressive voice work is able to create on its own a memorable and loveable Pauline character.
Couldn't think of a better date to finish the brilliant feel-good masterclass that is Donkey Kong Bananza.
This is game/level design in it's most purified state - playful, intentional, and TACTILE - but I also love its narrative and characters.
(potentially spoiler video next)

Sad that LOTR, Marvel and Stars are the only exceptions, like fan favourites didn't exist before the year 2000
Friendly reminder that a game meeting or beating expectations does not necessarily mean it sold better or worse than other games. Internal financial expectations and comparative performance between titles are different things.
