A few weeks of X’s algorithm can make you more right-wing – and it doesn’t wear off quickly Elon Musk’s social media platform is boosting conservative content – and it’s having long-lasting effects on how users see the world.

Latest article from me in The Conversation this morning.

I discuss a new Nature study that finds X's algorithmic feed is politically biased (surprise, surprise!). I explore the idea of social media platforms as faulty infrastructure in need of a fix.

This is utterly terrifying. We have a far right party rapidly gaining votes in Australia, polling above the LNP opposition and chasing Labor.

A discreet intellectual network has been reshaping the world for 70 years. Here's how A constant battle of ideas reshapes the world we live in, and few groups have been more successful in winning the war than the little-known Atlas Network.

I’ve been trying to transition over here too. I’m closing my account over there in the next week or so. I only use it to keep tabs on things now but it is too toxic and more is happening on BSky now to make it viable

Absolutely. Misappropriating the term is a form of cultural violence in itself. Erasing the core of the concept which aims to address the ongoing impacts of settler colonialism reproduced by institutions, particularly health.
To weaponise that against a colonised people is next level gaslighting.

β€˜A nation of rich cowards’: Australia needs its dreamers but the arts are underfunded, undervalued and despised We need a society that values its visionaries, those who go against the grain to create new dreams that reveal other ways of being

In the 21st century, one of the wealthiest societies in human history, yet diminished and lost: a nation of rich cowards without even the courage to acknowledge our origins and far less the possibility of a better future than the nightmare daily growing around us. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

4/4 It is disappointing that topics are not considered a priority by my institution at this point in history. I have an international reputation in this field ... but there you are. Make of it what you will. Onward as and upwards.

1/4 An announcement, of sorts... I wasn't sure when or how to share this news publicly. As you know, Macquarie University went through a round of academic staff cuts at the end of 2025, particularly targeting my discipline of sociology.
