Punching, Slamming, Screaming: A Chef’s Past Abuse Haunts Noma, the World’s Top-Rated Restaurant
Another famous #chef with a long history of abusing his staff. Why do #kitchens have cultures of #abuse? Glad I never went to #Noma.
If you can’t perform your talent without abusing those around you, you’re less skilled than you think.

I’ve seen many leaders get excited about high fidelity designs and many #designers completely ignore the underlying user path to spend weeks and weeks debating the look and feel. #Figma helped to kill proper #UX analysis in favor of shiny UI. As a researcher it’s often a hard campaign.

He survived! Probably more stressful than he needed, but I'm glad he seems okay and doesn't have any visible injuries from the ride or the adventure.

Honestly a session of Civilization IV sounds pretty relaxing right now as a way to temporarily escape the daily news cycle.

Our new #dog #walker volunteered twice to get our pup first before other clients to reduce first day #overwhelm in a van full of strange dogs. Just watched him shove Aubie into a van full of at least 3 other dogs, all twice his size. Hope it goes well. Timestamping in case it doesn't. Poor pup.

Tomorrow brings #PDX the first 6pm #sunset of 2026, and next week it will be a 7pm sunset due to Daylight Savings! The winter --> #spring shift this year is swift and I am thrilled to see it happen in March instead of May. #daylightsavings

A pile of chestnuts on a cutting board with a small carving knife laid alongside
A small paper bag of roasted chestnuts
A large plate piled high with chestnut cookies 🍪
We made chestnuts and from that, chestnut paste and from that, chestnut cookies! 🍪 🌰

A photo of a wooden outdoor poetry display box on a post in a residential neighborhood. The printed paper inside reads "Annual Physical: Your vital signs look pretty good, for your age. Overall health, steady. What you say about your exercise, diet, and sleep, all promising. But I detect from the lab work a toxin I would attribute to your intake of the news—specifically, a diet fat with presidential tweets. Just words, I know, but your body is not designed to process the cruel intent. With small doses, you can dilute and express this poison with your urine. But you have absorbed a dangerous amount. So first, I prescribe a total fast in this area. Then I would urge you to substitute wind in the trees, children's laughter, birdsong, evening crickets, and silence." A telephone pole, pale cloudy sky, street, and homes are visible in the blurred background.

Two coyotes sensibly using the sidewalk in single file in Northeast Portland, Oregon.
Bad vibes in #Portland tonight: I was screamed at by a man in a dark parking lot, got home to two #coyotes approaching me in the street, and, after fleeing to the backyard, heard the absolute weirdest animal cry in the alley just beyond the fence. Sorry Aubie, we are in for the night. #PDX

What happened to the $150 hotel room?
Rising hotel prices driven by inflation are challenging middle-class travelers, with once-affordable hotel rooms now out of reach.
This writer somehow thought it was realistic to find a hotel in New York in June for $150/night. $150! When I lived there *15 years ago* I never found a place under $190/night that I’d want anyone to stay in (unless they wanted a hostel). Paris, sure. Not NYC.

I am determined to spring clean despite being sick. I wanted to bring my shredder inside the house to get rid of papers with personal info on them. (Currently it lives in a shed outside.) When taking it off the high shelf, I fell and it fell… on my head. It weighs 20 lbs. Sums up my week.

A receipt that says “Thank you for your payment. $516.27”
Paid $516.27 for a dermatology skin biopsy as my $660/month United HealthCare plan doesn’t cover diagnostic tests *at all.* So I paid $8000 on premiums in 2025 just to pay this bill and another $500 for a mammogram. I find this incredibly problematic.

“1200 per cent more relaxing than other CDs” — a tempting offer at a little free library in Portland this morning.

I desperately wish our female attorney general cared about female victims of sexual assault as much as she cares about being a pick me for old, conservative, pedophilic men. Was she also a SA victim and can’t deal with showing empathy? Perhaps this is Stockholm syndrome at its utmost demonstration.
