10. The Protomen “Hold On (The Distance Between) — For 16 long years I have waited for a new album from one of my favorite bands. This year the dream was made reality. This album is everything I could have hoped for and more. It was hard to pick just a single track.

9. Duran Duran “Invisible” — Metal Gear Solid was a revelation for me in how video games could be many things at once. It’s nuts that it took me a decade to come to MGS5, and in so doing I discovered the self-gaslighting that makes this the iconic MGS Big Boss era song.

8. The Midnight “Summer is Ending Soon” — It took me a while to admit it but I love the melancholy, weepy-boi synth wave sound of The Midnight. This track off their very new album really encapsulates a lot of what I love about this band.

7. HUNTRIX “This is What it Sounds Like” — My daughter was all about K-Pop Demon Hunters this summer and she ain’t wrong - it’s a killer flick and not one song on that soundtrack is a miss. I got in trouble for “embarrassing” her because I had to sing along.

6. Dance with the Dead “I Want Blood” — So I have a confession to make - I agree that this song is…kinda dumb? But I don’t care, I love it. “You broke up with Dracula and he is NOT handling it well” is a brilliant premise for a song that jams even if it’s goofy.
