I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out:

He really is whoever you want him to be. Assuming you wanted him to be an anti-crypto bro (loved the book, can't wait for the movie!)
As taxes go up, infrastructure continues to decay, rents rise and homelessness increases, we can look to this tiny constituency of wealthy Calgarians with outsized political influence who would sabotage our city's future to avoid the "irreparable harm" of having a rowhouse on their block.
1. Are you currently using an AI tool for work-related tasks or projects? * Yes * No, but I would like to (PLEASE SKIP TO QUESTION 7)
My employer asks me to complete a survey on AI usage for which this is the first question (required):
as someone who's done survey design for 25ish years, and a certified AI-hater, this made me wince!!
I will post this on Gander later, I'm on my desktop!
Messaged someone that my social media usage is limited to Bluesky and Gander today and they read "and Grindr" and now I'm wondering if the developers considered this...
it's a widely reported fact that this movement is driven by far-right parental rights groups...so... yes?
Parents for Choice in Education executive director John Hilton-OβBrien sees it differently. In an interview, he said education and political leaders did not take his group's concerns about graphic images seriously at first, which is why they sent volunteers hunting for copies in schools. He said it was concerning to hear that school staff found almost 170 titles that contain images he thinks minors shouldnβt see. He said the finding suggests the education minister took the correct action.
Counterpoint: I could not be less concerned about what this particular man, who is affiliated with a far-right political party, thinks minors should or shouldn't see.
I am VERY concerned that this man's "concerns" + a bunch of lobbying resulted in book bans, though!
re. my last RT: a friend at work made this Alberta Baby Names site, which is also very cool, includes which names are trending up and declining. Liam had a big dip last year, the reign of terror may be ending albertababynames.lovable.app

Monday status update:
Hello I would like to share with you my new-and-improved website that compiles 46 years' worth of baby-names data in Alberta:
albertababynames.com
It now includes the latest data (for 2025) and a similar-names function to easily browse through various spellings in naming trends.
None of the gifs of Al Gore on The Simpsons "celebrating" include the part where he says "I Will." Unacceptable. I need to calmly celebrate a minor win at work and this is pissing me off

I think abolishing DST is probably good so this isn't what we talk about twice a year for a day or two.
