#narthex peeps: I am being ordained to the diaconate this weekend (TEC). Please pray for me if you have the space to do so. I’m excited, but there is much fear and trembling. Been working towards this for a long time. 🙏 ⚓️

My experience is that it varies widely. For me, I’ve just had too much Barthian/Lutheran folks influencing me to preach a sermon without 1) sticking close to the texts at hand, and 2) getting “to” Christ (unconditional grace-gospel type language). The solid teachers I try to emulate all do these.

Went to Lessons & Carols with a non-Christian close friend as a guest. Her husband, also a friend, was laid off last week. Her job is being overtaken by AI. Despite not being Christian she really enjoyed the message of the wealthy oppressors being taken down & peace coming to earth. ⚓

Sorry to chime-in randomly, but I’ve done several of these for my own formation process. They are great! Pretty low-impact work-wise, but very stimulating. Could scratch the itch if you want to be growing your sense of Episcopal identity.
