Much like my playthrough of Mario Kart Wii like last year, I played a lot of this game as a kid but never "finished it", as in getting the gold in all cups and all speed classes.

Happy I revisited this, I always thought this game felt bad but it turned out I was using karts with horrible stats.

5. Mario Kart DS (DS)

Another Mario Kart down. Not my favorite in the series but still very fun. The mission mode is really cool and it's a bummer this is the only game it appeared in.

Blowing in the mic to fill up balloons in Battle Mode is as fucked up and iconic as it's always been.

I'm not super familiar with Minecraft speedrunning, but I'd love to watch if you end up getting deeper into it and do some streams. I don't often go out of my way to watch random speedruns unless it's part of GDQ, but I'd check out runs from someone I know fr fr

4. Resident Evil Requiem (PS5)

No spoilers because new, but I have a lot to say. It's very good, maybe not my favorite RE, but a very worthy entry to the series and one that long-time fans should definitely play. Very spooky, very action.

By getting into Minecraft Speedrunning, do you mean just watching, or are you starting to speedrun yourself?

The more you play the more you'll get desensitized to it :)

3. The Wolf Among Us (PS Vita)

I loved playing this with my wife, the story was really engaging and even on the Vita it looks great. Phenomenal voice acting, too.

Only catch is that while the Vita version looks great, the performance is horrible. I’d recommend playing this 100% just not on Vita.

Science rocks, I just had a hard time understanding it through this story’s presentation.

09.02.2026 23:40 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

I think I would have enjoyed the story more if it wasn’t so insistent on explaining why shit happens to the extent it does, but I still do appreciate its attempt to tell a horror story in this way. Not for me but I do see the appeal and why other people would like it.

Edit: The story itself wasn’t hard to follow but I thought the science stuff was. It’s interesting that there’s real basis behind some of the science (and the guy who wrote the original story had a Ph.D in pharmachology) but the presentation of the science was tough to follow and laid on thick.

A presentation from Midway Home Entertainment titled "A glimpse into the Future... PLAYSTATION 2."

A presentation from Midway Home Entertainment titled "A glimpse into the Future... PLAYSTATION 2."

A slide titled "Heritage":

- The PS2 will challenge even the best programmers in the world to truly exploit it’s capabilities
- We at Midway believe we are ready for that challenge because we are “old school”
- “Old school” means that most of our development staff was writing code in assembler long before C became a viable language
- This expertise translates into the talent required to “get down to the metal” and really push the PS2

I always was told this game was “Final Fantasy if it was Resident Evil” but that’s a pretty misleading claim. This game leaned very little in the horror world outside of some gore, which is pretty lame.

It’s a serviceable RPG and a unique take on the genre, but overall it’s not my cup of tea.

2. Parasite Eve (PS1)

The gameplay and story in this one did very little for me. The combat was neat at first but it didn’t keep me hooked. Story was hard to follow and not particularly interesting or charming.

The graphics and soundtrack carry this game and will forever live rent-free in my head.

Ayo, the DS one? That was my first Fire Emblem game waaaaay back in the day, I remember liking it but it was way too hard for my baby brain to finish. Good luck 🫡

1. Stardew Valley (Switch)

Got 100% on the Perfection Tracker, got all in-game achievements, got the "final" cutscene on the summit, and watched the credits. I got sucked into this game *hard* and clocked >200 hours in my save. This is an all-timer for me, such a memorable and unique experience.

What's your DS flashcart of choice? I have one of those 2025 R4s with the timebomb which sorta does the job, but the timebomb issue is dumb and I had saving and freezing issues with specific games.

That's a tempting pick for me actually, what was your criteria for "beating" MVCI? Just the campaign, or was there other content you went through? Thinking this might be a fun one for me to do this year too, I think the gameplay is pretty sweet ngl.

Really sad to hear about the manufacturing issues, but as a fan of Series 1 and Picross, it's still a no brainer for me to check out the full GBA release
