Writing Progress February 23–March 1, 2026
What I Read in February
I can't believe February is already over. This year is flying by. Looking back, I can see I'm reading at least a few pages every day, but it certainly feels like I ran out of time to finish reading a significant number of books. As of today, I'm a bit behind on my reading…
Being anxious more often than not has taught me it comes in two general varieties.
The first pushes me with an often vague sense of urgency and can lead to more creative output.
The second locks me up. Introspection becomes a minefield. Writing grinds to a halt.
Guess which is dominating 2026?
Library requests really help, friends! Even if you borrow books and return them without reading them, you're helping authors and libraries!
🚨NATIONWIDE BOOK BAN ALERT
Whenever the administration takes a loss (like in the supreme court for tariffs) they go for low hanging fruit and book banning is a favorite.

Sat down feeling determined and motivated to get some quality writing time in today.
It took about five minutes for shooting pain in my sinuses to derail those plans.
I will still try to get some writing done, but my focus is fragmented.

Remus: “does this mean the city won’t be called ‘Reme?’”
Smokey's lab work came back all negative so we're now in the clear to begin the long, slow process of cat introductions
Describe your bluesky account in three words:

David Roberts: it is really unfortunate that it’s not possible to have a reasonable discussion about AI on here
A reasonable discussion about AI would come to the conclusion that this tech is damaging to humanity in virtually every way a tech can be damaging.
But I'd rather have an emotional discussion and point out that this tech is shit made by assholes, and it stole from me, personally, so fuck it.
Keeping the lovebug inside seems obvious because it will improve her life expectancy, but we already have four cats in the house and things integrating cat #4 was such an ordeal. It worked out, but I'm still recovering from their drama.
Trying to figure out what to do about the formerly feral turned friendly community cat that has now transformed into a kitty that cries to be held while we kept her out of the cold and snow in our basment
The Republicans are reportedly complaining that, if the American people demanded the resignation and arrest of everyone involved in the cover up of the #EpsteinFiles, the #Trump Administration would have "like 3 people left." Well, where's the flaw?

Eärendil The Mariner
I think I have been working on this for at least eight months, but I am so proud of how this turned out!!

I'm angry.
My sister will be homeless again on Saturday.
I hate that she's going to be in such a vulnerable situation again and I hate that she isn't a safe person for me to be around.
Admittedly, I don't speak to her often because she's made some choices I don't agree with and I do worry talking more often will only lead to her asking for even more favors from me.
In the past five months my sister has reached out to me to borrow something (yes), store something (yes), give her a place to stay (no), and now tonight to store things again (???). She hasn't reached out to say anything else in that time.
What I Read in January
I can't believe the first month of 2026 is already over. I also can't believe I had such a solid start to my year of reading. I wasn't sure what to expect when I set a slightly higher goal of 60 books for the year, but so far it seems to be working out fine. Books I finished…
Starting to think our little community cat we brought into the basement to shelter her from the cold and snow has decided to domesticate herself.
She is very content
People don't make their soup in a cauldron over an open fire under a full moon with the sound of wolves in the distance anymore, and honestly, I think that’s a shame.
1-bit drawing of a pusheen-like cat sitting in a pasta pot that i got from openclipart and edited. there are stars around on three corners because i'm using this to debug image rotation an esp32 device
look at him. where will he go
repost to send him on a journey
I'm used to high snowfall estimates that decrease a bit as the storm approaches and finally arrives. I was not prepared to see our predicted snowfall total jump up to 10-15 inches this morning.
Art and writing is a form of protest. It is a form of empowerment. It is part of being human.
That is why you write when the world is on fire.
