I stg if you want to see books like this in your local bookshop, the absolute best way to make it happen is to buy the fuck out of them when they're indie, because publishers only sign what they think will sell and won't take chances without data.
Back this project. Provide that data!

Text reading βOCTOTHORPE 154* *See, itβs like this. This is the first day of 2026 that hasnβt been cold, or wet, or both, so instead of doing the Octothorpe cover I went for a nice walk. And bought no board games, but a jigsaw. And did the jigsaw. Sorry.β The text is on top of a photograph of a bridge and some trees underneath a blue sky.
John, Alison and Liz start getting excited to nominate things for the Hugo Awards, and they consequently talk about books and games! They also chat about LAcon V and the upcoming fan funds. Listen here: octothorpe.podbean.com/e/154-at-lea...

A person standing outdoors in a leafy, green setting wearing a dark North Face jacket with the collar slightly open. The background is softly out of focus, showing trees and foliage.
Our next day guest for Satellite 9 is Dr Yashar Moshfeghi!
Dr Moshfeghi is a leading AI researcher at the University of Strathclyde and the founder of the NeuraSearch Laboratory.

As it's Hugo time, I wanted to talk about a category I care about, and which I think could do with a bit of extra love when it comes to nomination time - it's best fan writer!
(this is gonna be a thread of me doing hype, which I'm bad at, but that is much deserved by all here linked, pls be nice)

These are all excellent picks such as might enrich any Hugo ballot, but I would also add What A Fish Looks Like by Syr Hayati Beker from Stelliform, which was probably my favourite novella of 2025.
Many options to choose from!

Right, a few hours with the SOLAR Network website has convinced me that most religion & lit people work in so much isolation from each other that we have lost the ability to fill out a research profile with useful information, so: who's doing interesting current work on religion and American lit?
