Jan's art for KROMLECH is incredibly cool and inspiring, and this team could use some eyes on the game during its early access ๐
A page from my sketchbook, 3 drawings of flower chafer beetle and 1 grub.

the two faces of goose:
"give me snacks"
and
"get the fuck away from my wife"
same and really it's why I was a terrible concept artist. Turning up to meetings and unhelpfully saying "but it doesn't mean anything" ๐ซค

ah that's guaranteed! a historical visual novel with gardening mechanics is basically my ideal game
I'm going to play @edwigelel.bsky.social's The Abbess Garden instead ๐ store.steampowered.com/app/3411970/...
Oh no, I did the landscape equivalent of just drawing one very detailed eye

When you intend to work on your painting from yesterday but you look at it and don't know what to do because today you're a different person
maybe... if I ever convince a wren to step into a sunbeam in front of my camera

Last year I decided to put my health first and take an extended break from paid illustration. I found I had an inexplicable compulsion to document all the birds I can see from my house in the most time consuming way possible.

only 5 years to wear a lab coat (??) to work and participate in history like that? seems like a bargain!
I wasn't sure about including the barn owl because while I definitely saw a large white bird flying past a few times at 16:45 on a winter evening it's hard to say with certainty what it was! But there's one living in the woods nearby that's often seen hunting by day - maybe you'll see another weirdo
I do, usually something like 7000 px or more on the longest side. I like to zoom in to 100% so I feel like I'm working really big and can be loose with brush strokes. Then on my second monitor I have the same file zoomed to print size so I can check I'm not going completely insane with detail
Thank you!
I'm honoured!
It really depends, not including shooting the reference could be anywhere between 7 and 40 hours of painting
oh maybe! I don't get many sales on there and shipping makes it too expensive to order test prints so I don't update frequently. If you requested something I'd probably upload it (but also like.. no pressure to actually order haha)

I did get an a3 test print of that egret done but I wasn't all that into how it looked - something about the glowing white that looks great on a screen but I wasn't feeling it on paper. I was thinking of testing an A4 print in my next round of proofs

ah I'm sad to learn about your dog! Seemed like such a sweetie from your photos.
Once winter ends and the days get longer it might be easier to get a selt motivated outdoor routine going

'The Priory of Cilanti was built on the highest promontory of the Azurin-Talon, offering a unique panorama of the Crab-Claw Bay. It is a major pilgrimage site for the Mage-priests of the region and a nesting area for turquoise parakeets before their winter migration.'
